Is this the best start that we have ever had to a season before a ball has been kicked?
No debt; written off or capitalised Training Ground in full Preparation Flow Superb Pitch New Manager (well, nearly) Umpteen New Signings Reasonable New Kit New Stadium (coming with promotion?) Great Weather Roads with hardly any heavy traffic Beer in the fridge ......
Personally, I can't wait for it to start BUT I suspect the team will need the fans to push them, especially away. Covid restrictions may not help us in this regard.

The start of the season can't come soon enough for me, the calibre of players recruited has been quality and the fact that the debt is written off and the training ground is being built are two massive developments for the football club. There are lots of reasons to be optimistic about the club right now.
What I would say however is that I'm not letting myself get carried away, Garner still needs to prove himself as a manager, his record is far from impressive and it will be a strong division this year with Ipswich, Portsmouth, Oxford, Hull, Fleetwood, Blackpool, Charlton, Peterborough, Wigan and Sunderland to name a few fancying their chances of finishing at least in the playoffs. We've put ourselves in a good position to compete with them though.

Back to the OP I guess it depends on what time frame you are using, given we've twice started a season in the old L1, now Championship, after being promoted they've got to be better season's, as was our first back in Bristol, plus the first season in L1 under DC has to take some beating, as does just starting back in L2, so I'd rank it 6th, although not sure when we had better prospects for the season ahead, probably under Buckle!!
Not sure I'm that worried about BG's ability anymore as the way Wael's spending money then if he does start off poorly I sense he'll be gone PDQ, as it looks like Wael's going for at least a top 6 finish, if so, he won't want us floundering in mid table or lower for long. He's probably already told Nigel Clough to hang fire for a month or two just to see how things go!!

Definitely one of the brighter close season periods yes. One I remember being optimistic about was the season after we moved back to Bristol. The previous season we’d been playing at a two sided building site and struggled a bit in an awful Tesco bag kit but had some decent moments, then we signed Hayles, Foster and the returning “one of our own“ Penrice and got the promising Ramasut for the wings...got a bit enthused and even went to a pre-season friendly at Lincoln. Although ultimately we fell at one of the last hurdles that was a pretty decent season to be a Gashead!

To maximise our head start in signings over most clubs, why don’t we train on the mem pitch ASAP instead of Coombe Dingle, which I imagine is pretty poor pitch condition wise. Also great prep for playing in an empty stadium as that is apparently one of the hardest things for the players to get used to/deal with so get some practice games going as well. After all the new training ground pitches are aimed to be a replica of the mem pitch so might as well train/play on the real thing.Training ground pitches are aiming for end of September use so we won’t be able to get bowling green conditions anywhere else before then (could be later than then as well) so why not see if we can make this a possibility?

He's probably already told Nigel Clough to hang fire for a month or two just to see how things go!! I was really excited by the appointment of Buckle and the season ahead. More than I had been for many, many years. What a let down he was, to be polite. BTW, do he and Trump use the same make up? "Buckle's first act as Bristol Rovers manager was to successfully persuade Torquay assistant manager Shaun North, goalkeeper Scott Bevan and striker Chris Zebroski to join him. After signing a total of 19 players, and releasing or selling 19 of Rovers' existing players from the previous season's relegation, a run of four wins from the first ten games left the club in mid-table. However, things quickly worsened, with the club winning only two further league games before January and Buckle publicly falling out with Bristol Rovers' fan favourite Stuart Campbell, who he released from his contract in December 2011. Buckle's position at the club became increasingly unstable following home defeats to Crewe Alexandra and Plymouth Argyle that left the club just outside the relegation zone and, on 3 January 2012, he was sacked by Bristol Rovers after a 2–0 loss to struggling Barnet."So, at the risk of another pratfall, I think this could be one of the most exciting seasons ever to be a Rovers fan. I have faith that Ben Garner will prove his worth. He has many people who rate him as a coach. OK, he may have been more involved with the younger levels of players until his appointment with Rovers but some of the people he has worked with view him with great respect. He has made some signings that, to be honest, have been staggering by our previous performances in the transfer market. THAT, is where the difference is between the Buckle anticipation and that of BG, in my opinion. BG has bought young, (apparently) hungry, not to mention skilful players, with a couple of worldly wise very capable older heads. Buckle bought players that seemed to be good at our level but he failed to manage them, or to show any managerial skills whatsoever..

Some very decent sides and many of them still to declare their hands with new signings etc... There is usually a surprise team as well - I wonder if that might just be us?

Surely a win would be our best star to a season? I usually say we only have 45 games a season as we almost always lose the first one.

Some very decent sides and many of them still to declare their hands with new signings etc... There is usually a surprise team as well - I wonder if that might just be us? It's never set in stone is it? I can remember people's predictions for last season and it was like ordering biggest club to smallest, in the end Sunderland and Ipswich finished in the upper reaches of mid table and it was a Wycombe vs Oxford playoff final. Next year certainly looks tougher with the aforementioned Sunderland and Ipswich aiming to be a bit better, three clubs coming down from the Championship that will be competitive at this level in Hull, Wigan and Charlton and the usual suspects at this level hoping that this year will be their year to go up in the likes of Peterborough, Oxford and Portsmouth. Even the clubs coming up from League Two look a bit stronger, Swindon and Crewe have put good sides together and Plymouth are a big club that usually give L1 a good go. Looking forward to it, even if I'm watching on from Follow, I think we've kept the core of a decent side and strengthened it with really promising additions. We could be this years Wycombe, who knows. UTG
