Out of curiosity is anyone old enough to have been there at the match?

Was it when we beat the Busby Babes in the FA cup? My old man used to claim he was. Didn't take me though.

Out of curiosity is anyone old enough to have been there at the match? As ancient as I am, I was still swimming around in my old mans bawbag at that time

We also beat United away at Old Trafford in the League Cup 3rd round, Wednesday 11th October 1972
That side included Bobby Charlton, Brian kidd and George Best
John Rudge and Bruce Bannister scored our goals in a 2-1 win

Was around then and my elder brother could have taken me but wouldn't! listened wide eyed to his report though and have just about forgiven him now as he is in his eighties! he can also remember the Newcastle cup game 3/4 years earlier, drew up there , massive queues at Eastville for replay tickets which in those days took place the following Tuesday, we lost of course!

I was seven but not allowed to go even though I had been before when the crowds were smaller. My Dad and elder brother went and it forever stayed in their memory as our best ever game. I went to the 50 years celebration with my brother who bought and proudly wore the T Shirt. Sadly he is no longer with us and one of his big decisions was which Grandson do I leave my T Shirt to, such was the importance of it. It meant a lot that game especially to those who were there. You have to remember this was Man Utd's first team except for Duncan Edwards who was injured. There was no playing the reserves in those days. This was the team many of whom tragically lost their lives in the Munich air disaster, an amazing group of players called the Busby babes. This was like thrashing Liverpool or Man City's first team team today. The game was recorded by the BBC, but sadly the tapes were destroyed. I often wish we could better it. Perhaps we will in the Wael era, who knows?

I attended this match with my brother and remember fighting my way to the front of the Boys Enclosure to get a decent vantage place for a truly memorable day.A great day in the history of The Gas.

10 Sept '55 my first game at Eastville when we beat Forest 4-1,Geoff Bradford et all.Always had to leave early to get a number 3 or 11 bus to do my paper round at Totterdown in later years. My Dad supported the other lot but Ashton Gate had no feel,no warmth,no spiritual presence.
