With the new season starting next week. I've noticed the club haved made a formal announcement of the new captain. Seen Kilgour, Ehmer and Jaakkola all wearing the armband during different parts of pre season. Was wondering who everyone thinks we should go for. Personally I think it's still to early for Alfie so either of the other two would be fine. Lucky we have leader all over the pitch at the moment so overall I don't think it really matters too much.

Max Ehmer without question. He’s an experienced rock at the back and captained his former club for many years. I wouldn’t want to see Kilgour heaped with such responsibility & perhaps have his game affected by it. As we saw on many occasions with Ollie Clarke. Regardless of those that dismiss the importance of the armband, the honour & responsibility of being captain is massive on & off the pitch. For my money choosing Ehmer is a no brainer.

Ehmer surely gonna be second on the team sheet after Jak, never liked the idea of a keeper as Capt.

Got to be Ehmer. Right age, right experience, others will accept and follow without question.
Kilgour doesn’t need toe responsibility at this stage of his development.

I'm not convinced that Kilgour is going to be starting at the moment whereas I think Ehmer will be so I'd give Ehmer the edge.

Without knowing them all personally it’s as a supporter difficult to say who should be captain and I’d imagine the manager and his staff have a much better idea than any of us will have at this stage.

Experience plus good chance will play most / all games in season. That leaves Jakko, Ehmer and Upson? I generally don't like goalies and forwards as captains. Mad Max 1 a much better film than Mad Max 2 so Ehmer as numero uno.

Sounds like this afternoon we will find out the captain and two vice-captains as voted for by the players and staff. Interesting way of doing it.
Ehmer for me, he's leading this poll too, I always like a dominating centre back captaining the side, with Rodman and Jaakola as the vice-captains.

The players will know who they respect the most and who has a commanding position in the team. UTG

Which means BG is still choosing the roles but is listening to the opinions of everyone. They may all vote for Rodman for example but that's not much good if BG only sees him as a squad player (for examples sake) . Hardly going to name his team tomorrow and have the captain not play. One Capt and 2 vice capts . Ehmer Upson Rodman

I understand there are two captains in every league club. Team Captain and Club Captain. I am not aware of the job description but assume it is Team Captain leads the team out onto the pitch and has his picture taken with the mascots and calls heads or tails. Thus must be very stressful for any young player so a more aged player should be appointed?. Except that is illegal under age discrimination. Any tactical systems is the manager's role not the team captain thus stress free! Club Captain is the spokesperson and voice for all the players with any queries and requests with the Manager, clubs officials. Guessing the person should be more experienced and able to communicate at a senoir level and have the support of the players. This much was stated by Garner when he announced that the players had 2 votes each when picking the captains. How does being a good player and experienced rock at the back play any role in either role? Surely the position is one that commands respect and support of the players as a whole and supported by the staff?

Just to muddy the waters a bit hasn't Rodman been our unofficial club captain in recent years being the players PFA rep? He was the first one to speak on behalf of the players when proposals for extending the season were being mooted and is apparently a well liked member of the dressing room. If this was decided by vote, can see him having a role to play in the new captaincy set-up for sure.

The important thing for me is having a number of leaders on the pitch and I think we now have that.
Jaakola, Ehmer (was Gills captain), Grant (was Chelsea U23 captain), Kilgour, Rodman and Upson.
