Watching Rovers this season is already like an infinite loop- a worn out needle on a record player but the main problem is that whichever side BG puts out it is difficult to get out of the loop.It is just a constant mistake waiting to happen as most of our possession takes place around our penalty area where nobody knows when to release a pass forward and when they do release it- it is the poorest pass you have ever seen or an aimless hoof in desperation when the players get themselves into a tight corner. and behind them is a keeper who is about as confident with the ball anywhere near his feet as Brian Parkin was when the back pass rule came in. The penalties last night were then the ultimate sign of players scared to make the mistake and penalties mainly taken by defensive players which was pretty well all we had out there. Centre halves strolling about midfield which reminded me of the time I think it was McGoo who thought Parkes could make a flying winger.
IMO Ben Garner has managed in the two cup games to mix it up enough to make up two teams that didn't look capable of winning either game and succeeded.
Both games have shown us against completely different classes of opposition to be totally lacking in the attacking third. The frustrating thing is that in both games there have been rare glimpses of what these players could be capable of with the right mix and two new attacking players to balance the over reliance on defensive players.
Experienced players do not become poor players overnight but what did BG really learn last night by just "giving" players games? Maybe just that certain players are not in good enough form to be playing or are not quite good enough at the present time. Kilgour looks a shadow of his form last season and moving him left to right is hardly going to help him. Giving Harries and Baldwin alternate positions in midfield is hardly going to help their confidence.
The trouble last night was at a completely different level I watched the England game straight afterwards and it was another wasted 90 minutes of watching a side with no real creative ability and far too many passes across the back four.
Perhaps it is me but is this really the best coaches can produce?
