This was posted on the Colchester United website on Monday and I thought it was well worth sharing with our fans. Sadly the system seems very biased towards the bigger clubs in the EFL with the smaller ones making an absolute pittance.

How many teams are going to be able to stay afloat with these type of figures? If we as fans are going to pick and choose which games to watch then we should all pick home games!

Christ.
At this rate, just being solvent might be enough to see us in the championship in 2 years time.
Very, very sad state of affairs.

surely, as on matchdays, it is only right that the "Home" club SHOULD keep all the gate receipts?
Who the f*ck came up with that piece of crap? Should have their fingernails ripped out by a demented otter.

So did we get to keep all the money from those who paid for the Sunderland game because they are one of the few teams who have not signed up to iFollow? I assume that these figures are also based on those who pay the £10 match pass. I don't know how the money gets divided for the overseas subscribers who paid £140 for the whole season up front?
I am also surprised that the EFL don't take a cut.

It would be interesting if iFollow printed the viewing figures for each.match, I would imagine a club like Ipswich last Saturday could have easily had 3k+ fans subscribing for the game.

Did Colchester only get revenue from the first 500 away supporters as that is an agreed figure or is that how many tickets Bolton would have been allowed if the fans were allowed in. If the later then we should 'virtually' open the south stand to away supporters

Really, wouldn't have been better/simpler/make more sense to give the home team 90/95% of all the revenue regardless of where it had been purchased to mimic what would normally happen

If the later then we should 'virtually' open the south stand to away supporters Colchester can normally accommodate many more away fans than that, so it looks like as part of the agreement they have virtually limited 'travelling' fans to 500. I imagine at the request of the bigger clubs.

Football as we know it as over, lots of clubs (including ourselves) will struggle to survive through this sadly.

I have emailed ifollow for them to give details so lets hope they reply. If what the OP states is correct, their wont be many clubs left for the EFL to fleece soon given that crowds are unlikely to be back in grounds this year

I read somewhere that the Accrington Stanley chairman said it was a 80/20 split with the EFL & I believe like you mention that our own Tom Gorringe stated that we keep 80%, also saying as a club Rovers made in the region of 70-80k last season.

Maybe that was for last season? I think its done differently this season given the huge increase in numbers watching.

The club need to sort out some kind of mail shot, twitter shot? stressing how important it is to get as many fans as possible to get on board with this. You really have to drive home the messages when your main source of income has been compromised so badly.

From my understanding, this is not quite right.
I do not think the OP is strictly speaking wrong in its assessment, however, it has confused the issue, probably because those figures quoted are specific to them. This is beacuse of the way the funds for the passes for away fans are distributed.
I shall try to explain:
The ifollow passes purchased for the home games from home fans (through their club's own iFollow website) receive the majority of the funding, with some going to the EFL etc.
For away games, those away fans purchasing their iFollow passes through their own club's website receive the allocation based on their predicted away attendance had the game gone ahead - taken from the previous season. This is how I understand it, but obviously some other calculation, pehaps based on away attendance in general, and the maximum that the home club could accommodate, would be used where there had not been a fixture the previous season. And again, I do not know what allowance has been made for those away fixtures last season that were mid week, which would have obviously reduced the away attendance.
So, I am guessing, that for the figures quoted above, that is using an expected away attendance from Bolton fans of just over 1700 (1752) fans. It would be different from club to club.
The important thing to remember though, is to use the ifollow through the Bristol Rovers website to ensure we are paying as a Rover's fan.
The club does earn money from ALL of our home fans purchasing a pass for home games.
UTG!
