As things go very quiet on the stadium front ...yet again ( understandable in current covid situation) , do we still hold out hope ?

Thank goodness. A new thread about the stadium. I was begging to get bored of the other two dozen.

I’m feeling optimistic. I still reckon Wael and Co will have something to announce soon. Then again been feeling this way for a year or so.

Watching the Ifollow game yesterday and from experience of going to the place, I really hope any new stadium isn’t like the one Oxford have. Far away from anywhere, identical stands, boring concrete concourses, I’d rather stay at the mem than move to something like that.
Obviously the club needs to move to new stadium to push it on off the the pitch and the facilities at the mem are lacking to put it mildly, but it’s got to be done right and that unfortunately takes time and a lot of money.

I agree axe, the Kassam Stadium is one of, if not THE most bland modern stadiums in the country. I sincerely hope that if we do eventually get a new stadium, we manage to come up with a better effort than the likes of Kassam, the Keepmoat, New Meadow etc.

I don't want a new stadium, just a full old one please. Replace the tents at the Mem with some water stained old terraces and were good to go!

Almost all new grounds are bland. The new Arsenal and Man City grounds are very good but plenty of money was spent on them. Colchester’s place is a very bad example, and Millwall’s. I struggle to think of a good new ground in the lower leagues, maybe Milton Keynes but it is way too big for them. It’s hard to know what size ground would suit us, no more than 15,000.

That goes back to a question I posed some time ago, before we can settle in what stadium we want (ranging from an unchanged Mem though to a Stadium:MK style 30k+) we need to decide on what realistic ambition we have. Are we a middle sized club looking for the occasional Championship season, yo-yoing between that and L1, whether mid L1 is our ceiling or are we looking to be an established Championship side with maybe sights set even higher. If money is tight but we have a suitable site to build, I'd be tempted to have a really large main stand to generate the wealth through amenities with the rest very austere (cheap!) stands that can be replaced piecemeal as and when finances and success allows. Size wise, 15-20,000 would be the sweetspot in my opinion. Anything less isn't worth the effort, much more than that would be overkill except for derbies (remember them?) or the odd cup match against Premiership teams (remember them???).

What modern ground would you like, all things considered? Steep sides so fans are close to the pitch, standing home section at one of the ends, inner city location, a design taking into consideration atmosphere, club museum and bar overlooking the pitch. I know that’s asking for a lot but it’s kind of an “ideal” scenario.

I’d be happy with 15,000 capacity as long as there was the possibility to expand, bowl stadiums seem to have gone out of fashion with stadia architects so hopefully we get something with unique individual stands.
Most important thing for me would be getting safe standing in the ground.

Safe standing room would be nice. Villa Park is my favourite ground and if anywhere we ever build can be even half as nice I’ll be very happy. It really needs to be in the city not in an out of town car park.
This all assumes of course that crowds return once there is a vaccine for covid. I worry that we will become even more passive and be content to watch on line and not want to be there in person.

I know that’s asking for a lot but it’s kind of an “ideal” scenario. I hate steep stands. Sheffield United, away end, is very steep, don't know about the rest of the ground. MK Dons is big, but too far off the pitch. Away fans in one corner not too good. Bolton's ground is beautiful, especially midweek, from the outside. It is a site to behold. Sunderland's ground has the right size steepness? Ricoh is concrete, inside the open corners let in too much wind. For where we are, and for future capacity, a 20,000 seating and standing plus another 7,000 option would probably be ideal. We should also make sure away fans get the same comfort and choice as home fans. Barnet Beehive had a massive covered room / hall with bars and TV screens for away fans. [St. Andrews, last season, had a nice feel / atmosphere about it? No wonder Coventry went up] It does not all have to be built in one go, especially if it is a different location to the Mem. Alternating blue and white seats to give a quarter effect. Could also be useful in separation of fans for future Covid type situations. Social distancing; NO. Just sectional social standing terraces. 2 large screens diagonally opposite (so away fans can also see) showing the match live with replays and pre-match highlight sequences of previous (memorable) games (against the day's opposition?) that are not byte size. Even 15/30 minute highlights of the previous home game? Or iFollow extended highlights? etc. Up The Stands UTG
