Huge win for BG today & I’m chuffed for him.
He’s taken a lot of flack, and rightly so at times, but you can see signs that his work is slowly starting to pay off...

I am so pleased for Ben as he has been vilified by some for not producing instant success with a new, very young but technically talented squad.
I have always felt the the new ethos of the club, i.e. scouting young players with great potential and developing them by utilising a highly respected coaching team, was an exciting and, arguably more importantly, sustainable approach. I have been willing Ben to prove himself to be more than a great coach and have been worried at times (and still am to some extent) about whether he would run out of time to do that, but have always wanted it because this approach really is our best hope of being more than a perpetual league 1/2 club.
Whilst I understand the passions and frustrations of many Gasheads when this new model of working has struggled to produce results and performances, I have been really disappointed with some of the abuse and disrespect shown to a man who has always given his best regardless of personal challenges and a start at the club plagued by the uncertainty of a global pandemic. Mocking our manager and belittling him just felt wrong and I hope that we can all now just back him and accept that he genuinely wants the best for this club. If he fails (and I genuinely think he won’t) then he will be moved on but let’s at least go on the ride with him and back this new approach to taking us forward as a club.

Much more balanced views on here tonight but the thread title may mean some of the nay sayers won’t even look. DC nearly got sacked before turning the corner in The Conference Season. I don’t think BeeGee was actually close to sacking (I believe Wael was looking long term) but the clamour was building from what I hope was a minority (a noisy one). Many of us were rightly concerned and still should be as there is a long way to go. However, the improvement has been steady and pretty consistent, the football has been half decent to watch and the number of errors has been dropping. We got a bit of luck early on against Northampton when they didn’t capitalise on our nervousness in defence - we improved and won. We got a bit of luck today when perhaps Lincoln should have had a penalty. We improved still more and won, probably deservedly in my opinion. The margins are often fine in football and a bit of luck goes a long way sometimes. Now I hope we are playing well enough and confidently enough to build on this change around and have a decent season. C’mon Gas, UTG!

Things are looking up.
We all know the board have faith in BG and believe in his project. It would probably take us being bottom of the league by Christmas for them to think about taking any action.
If he was just starting out this season then there would be far less moaning. Ten minutes away from three points at Sunderland, five minutes from a point against Ipswich. Yes the Doncaster game was poor, but dont we always loose there?
The players are young, but starting to gel now. BG said after the game that we have made a profit on transfers and cut the wage bill. Its a more sustainable model and hopefully some of these players will get better allowing us to cash in on them in the future. This way of working and playing has great potential. It will be better suited to Championship football, if say we are good enough to have a crack at promotion next season.

Although we all hate not being able to go to games, it might be the one thing that saved BG so far. If the season hadn’t been halted in the spring, chances are we would have kept losing and the ground swell against him would have been so bad he would have probably been sacked.
I for one would rather see us try and change the whole culture of the club, than employ someone to get instant results with any given group of players. That is usually successful in the short term but eventually the wheels fall off. Arguably we’ve been doing that for most of our existence.
I would much rather the club was known for playing good football and investing in youth. If it is successful I can’t see how anyone would disagree with that ethos?

I agree and the only bit I would add is that in the combative world of football it is still important to get results t9 go alongside the things you mentioned. Style of play, building a culture of getting younger players in, and giving time for the manager are all important but they mean little if you are continually losing over a long period of time. You need wins to build confidence and maintain your league placing. If you can do what you want to do and get some wins to maintain your place then the changeover in style, recruitment can take place far more easily. Let’s hope we can continue to do what we’ve done over the past few matches because we can see that the football played has been much better and fully deserved the wins. Good luck BG and the team. UTG!

Totally agree, this approach will lead us to a more sustainable business model,I also watched Starnes /Waels discussion regarding Covid and I think we are very lucky to have an owner that is committed to supporting the Club through what will be very difficult financial times.

Fair play to BG, things have started to look up. I'm still not convinced but my club is more important than my pride, if I'm to be proven wrong and made to eat my words I'll gladly do so. Full backing until the bitter end.
I just hope people don't start thinking people had no reason to villify him? His record so far is Dam abysmal. It's very reasonable to be critical of BG.

So do you think GC would have done any better at v Ipswich, Sunderland and Donny this season? Don't you accept the football we played football in the second half yesterday which a million miles away from anything GC's side were capable of as well as DC's side in his final year? I was never big fan of BG but at least after yesterday, & also mid week, I can see what he's trying to achieve, personally I hope he's successful as it years since we've actually been able to look forward to watching Rovers play, rather than just hoping we get a result, probably the first time we can do that since Bodin was sold.

UTG Our political opinions and beliefs may be poles apart but we both love The Gas. Your points above mirror exactly how I feel and I hope that Garner is given the time he needs to perfect his project. He obviously has an incredible depth of knowledge about young players on the fringes of the big clubs, and until we get a stadium capable of hosting decent sized crowds in comfort and where there are plenty of and easy ways for them to spend additional money, we will always have to sell to survive. I believe it’s known as market forces! UTG.
