Why? The only reason after the game that they should have won is because before the game they were top of the league and they were at home! I can't stand Michael Appleton anyway but gracious in defeat he certainly is not. I honestly felt that over the 90 minutes we were the better team- our passing was crisper and we gave very few chances to the opposition- even their goal was avoidable but over the game Annsi had very little to do. The only time Lincoln offered any danger was when they hit long crosses a bit like a Coughlan team. The one thing I will say for Appleton is that at least he has changed Lincoln from the totally one dimensional team they were under the brothers but they still committed the worst fouls in the game and some of our players were just too good for them. It was pretty well a perfect away performance against one of the top teams.
The match facts hardly suggest a match Lincoln should have won - remembering we were the away team we had 9 shots compared to Lincolns 8,5 shots on target compared to their 3,5 corners to their three and they committed 17 fouls compared to our 13.Possession was pretty well 50:50 until we went in the lead and then we were happy to stop them getting in our area and when we did get the ball to hit them on the break- perfect tactics.
I really hope that Michael Appleton is nowhere near play offs or promotion come the end of the season but yesterday made it very sweet!

I can't stand him either Steve. I stand behind the dugout and he's a humourless character. Bit like Parkinson. Still, he has to somehow justify himself and his methods to his board and fans. He and Lincoln probably just another 'flash in the pan' team. Will probably sink gently down the table.

We were the best side in both the first and second half. They never looked like equalising when we took the lead and we were able to keep them at arm’s length, even before they went down to 10. If they had nicked a draw at the end it wouldn’t have done Rovers justice.

Nowadays this league is full of Appletons, Robinsons, Parkinsons, etc. who all have a background with bigger teams which seems to give them a sense of entitlement. Ferguson is the same. Very few now give the opposition much credit, they all have their excuses ready. No one says we were beaten by a better team today, they all trot out stuff about referees, individual mistakes, the better team lost etc. etc. I suspect BG might come over a bit similar to oppositions as well. It’s very rare to be able to find a neutral, balanced report because even commentators sometimes have an axe to grind.
I found it interesting that MApp in his BBC interview said what a risk it was to try and change the style after three years of the Cowleys. Lincoln fans seem to accept the change after 3 years of unprecedented success. BG comes in here attempts to do the same thing and gets slaughtered, yet I suspect we hated the GC system more than Lincoln fans disliked the Cowleys way. But we all know that any interview will be carried out to show the subject, MApp, in the best light. (And I know MApp had more success in changing system than BG did, but he was also more experienced)
And I suspect that were we to have any of the above mentioned managers as our manager we’d be quite happy if they brought a level of success. Blimey, even the Gills fans are coming around to Steve Evans and say lots of nice things about him. We might not like them for other teams but if they were ours, sticking up for us and fighting our cause we would love them! They might be ba****** but they would be our ba******!

Nobody particularly enjoyed GC’s method of play, but it was getting results. We were sitting near the top of the table and I came on here and said we should be careful what we wished for because other clubs would be sitting up and taking notice. I went to Ipswich and celebrated like mad an excellent away win. Coughlan was celebrating with us, the 2 faced bastard. We were on the train leaving Ipswich station when he made his announcement and was gone, literally the next day. So he knew all along.
He left us with a team designed and built in his image. Wael appointed a diametrically opposed coach and we all, for some reason, expected he would produce winning football, and moaned and groaned when it didn’t happen. There is an argument that he should have continued Coughlan style but that would be akin to asking a devout Muslim to become a Christian.
Covid to some extent came to Bens rescue and he has been able to build his own squad. Again, much credit to Wael for that. After an inauspicious start, during which those young players have started learning what L1 men’s football is all about, there’s signs they’re getting to grips and BGs methods are starting to shine through. There will be games where we get tanned, but hopefully there will be more Northamptons and Lincolns than Ipswich and Doncasters. And we sem to have unearthed a couple of gems in Hanlon and Tutonda.
Coughlan? His side are languishing 5th from bottom of L2 and their fans are not happy at all and are starting to want him fired.
He deserves all he gets, the 2 faced Shitbag.

It's a contentious point to say the least, it's borderline but I think ref had a good game - and got that one right.. So was their penalty appeal a good shout - and got that wrong. But overall, I thought we were the better team and it's best to concede that and be honest. I wonder if there's not much difference between Appleton and BG regarding excuses post match? |

I watched one of their players on YouTube earlier saying it's a game they thought they'd win.......why did he think this, a club like Lincoln that's over achieved and will be in the bottom half of the table end of the season.

We always do well against Lincoln whoever happens to be managing them at the time. Lincoln won't be anywhere neat the top at the end of the season. A few early wins seems to have given Appleton a deluded view that Lincoln will win the league. What a joke. A few early defeats gave most of us the deluded view we would get relegated.
