I don't understand the OP some times he's been banging on for weeks (even years?) we need a couple of pace strikers, now we've finally got 2, or even 3, he changes track to say the midfield's not up to the task before he's even seen the present midfield play with the newcomers.
Why don't we just reserve judgement until 5pm tomorrow or even 10pm Tuesday. It seems unlikely DC will sign anymore players this side of January in any event.

Toppergas, If you check back posts you will see that all along I have said we need a midfield general who controls things. Maybe Monkhouse can fulfil that role or even Balanta. Do you think we have a midfield that dictates the games? It's all about opinions and I just state what I feel. To be honest we may still be short on fire power- no one knows,it may be that the service is or has been part of the problem. Now we have Della Verde perhaps he will be just what Taylor needs and that is why I would start with Taylor tomorrow although the temptation might be to start with Goldberg. Just looking at the squad it has signs that it could be the strongest squad in this League- only time will tell. I just feel that the Mansell/Sinclair partnership puts one hell of a lot of pressure on Mansell, Clarke gives it more balance. Do you not agree we could do with a classy midfield General? I accept that we may not get one,at least before January and we have to hope that our new signings come off - that is always a gamble- we shall just have to wait and see.

Admitedly i was a bit sh** but i used to play left wing when i was right footed and it was awesome as you could cut inside. Id play LDV ad Balanta together.

SteveK I agree we've never replaced Lines but DC has to stop somewhere or we'll once again by raking up £1m+ losses this season.
In an ideal world we could also do with sending Leadbitter out on loan and getting in an experienced attacking FB in the Smith mould.
As things stand I'll be just happy to see how we perform in the next couple of games, after all if either Taylor or Goldberg don't start scoring regularly another striker may still be the priority come January.

i know youve mentioned this on several threads but what do you actually mean by "shoring up in the centre"? Well like I said: If you watch the play there is a consistent space in the centre of the park pretty much throughout the game. There's a huge blob at the back in front of the keeper and then two tramlines down the flanks which are closed down quite quickly. Service from the centre through the opposition back line to the forwards is virtually non-existent, it all goes over the top or in to touch from the wings. We need someone who can sit in the middle and pick out a pass to the forwards, or spot possible opportunity for movement round the back and who can break up play from a counter attack - a Scholes or Gerrard or, as unpopular as he became, O'Toole when he first arrived. i think i know what you mean,i think mansell and sinclair have been very good defensively in midfield and have also played good simple passes but they arnt playmakers and often sit quite deep if your saying they are poor defensively i disagree but they arnt really creative i admit[same with ollie clarke],,,also i think dc has instructed them not to push forward which i imagine goes against sinclairs natural instinct.
