Now training with the under 23's, he sounds miles off. Garner told Bristol Live the injury has healed, but Barrett is still some way from a return to the first team.
"At the moment he’s training with the under-23s and trying to get fit," the manager said.
"Once he’s fit and up to speed, he comes back into the reckoning for the first team.
"It’s just getting him back up to speed. The hamstring has healed, he’s just trying to build his fitness levels now and get back into a good physical condition and be on the same level as the first-team players."
Sounds much closer to a return than Ayunga: "Jonah’s progressing well," Garner said. "Where the injury was in the hamstring was a bit of a difficult place, so we’ve had to be careful with, but he’s progressed really well over the past week or so.
"We’re really happy with how he’s progressing and he’s entering the latter stages of his rehab now, and he’s trying to push back and get fit and get training."

In contrast I know DC kept his cards to his chest with things like injuries as a tactical thing not giving info to opponents etc.. I can understand the fitness, I guess they haven't been on their feet much still eating like an athlete and it's bound to happen when your leg goes!

Deffo mate, I think BG said that they recruited a nutritionist to help the squad so in time we should see some improvement in recovery you would imagine?

I hope he knuckles down and gets up to speed, obviously very talented and would be a great option. He has never looked that fit since he has been here, Ben has been ruthless with him about his fitness hope he achieves the required standards.

He certainly has, feel bad for him although in the podcast with Ricky Lambert he mentioned weight loss at Southampton and went on to glory with them Liverpool and England so can’t be all bad I spose

Feel a bit sorry for him, he obviously needs to play games to get match fit but the development squad don't seem to have fixtures. Hard to see how he gets back in unless he goes out on loan & plays some games.

It'll be interested to see how well everyone can become cohesive. The modern game is certainly different than the one most of us grew up with.. Sports Analysts, video analysts, nutritionists etc! It's well known in fitness that what you eat is 80% of how you recover. And simple choices like cutting out red meat and dairy during muscle recovery to decrease inflammation have huge results in faster recovery times! I'd expect (and hope, at the least) we have a professional panel involving the physios, coaches and nutritionists so that everyone can be on the same page. It's important all involved in recovery are - well... Involved! But it can also be easy for them to have no communication and that's where the problems with having several ..experts.. can lie!

I do wonder if BG's already given up on Barrett, as I doubt Ayunga will be left training with the U23's when he returns from his injury. (Just noticed JML has come straight back into the first team squad after a month out with injury)

I hope not as from the little I saw of him I thought he looked promising. To me he looked as though he wanted to try & make things happen and wasnt happy to play 'safe' passes. We've lacked a bit of creativity so far so I'd hope he'd be pushing Oztuhmer etc for that place in the team

We have signed a lot of 18-22 year olds, to see which ones make the step up. I thought Barrett had lost interest at Reading, which is why they let him go. We have some very promising youngsters and a big squad. His attitude and fitness will have to be right to even get on the bench. I can't find anything relating to development squad fixtures.

Coventry fans were saying he was carrying too much timber and that was in 2018!
A 22yo footballer shouldnt be in that position really, not these days..

Barrett has been told he can go , he’s offered to be paid up 50% of his contract but Rovers have said no
Him n Garner do not get along, his hammy may be not right but Garner has repeatedly told him to shift timber and Barrett likes himself the way he is
Bust ups are regular
Don’t expect to see him back

Interestiingly GC, who is viewed as a disciplinarian, gave some players a quite a bit of leeway.

He said he was fitter in our season and he took part in the friendly, until he got injured. Don't think he will be involved, unless he is at the right level though.

He said he has to meet the fitness requirements, to be considered. If he meets those, then there is no reason, why he won't be considered. If he gets himself fit, he will be a good addition to the squad.
