Today Shrewsbury signed Marc Pugh, ex AFCB, on a short term contract until January. Last week, just after we beat them, they signed Charlie Daniels as well. Now in League 1, the Championship and the first three years in the PL Daniels at LB and Pugh at LMF/LW made a fantastic pairing. The way they combined was fantastic and they made many defenders look silly when they attacked together on the left side. Once Pugh left Daniels was never as effective as an attacker. The pair of them were a truly fantastic pairing, one of the best I’ve ever seen for any team. If Shrewsbury can resurrect the pairing it will catch many League 1 defences out and Shrewsbury would have the best left handed pairing in the league. I mention it because for about 5 years they were tearing defences apart together, PL as well only yards from where I sat so I saw nearly all their homes games together over that time. I’m just pleased they signed after we’d beaten them, not before. UTG!
Mods, please feel free to move this to the general football section if you think it’s a better place. I posted it here because it is directly League 1 related and therefore Rovers related.

I quite like that gambit, seems quite a clever approach actually, reuniting old teammates who played well together. Obviously time will tell, but good spot!

So they will not be the same player's, that they once were.

Liam Lawrence springs to mind. Good signing on paper but not in reality.
I much prefer our approach to signings over the past few months. Young, hungry players that can only improve.

We are buying players for the seasons to come. They may not show their best this season but I genuinely think they will in the seasons to come.

I prefer BGs approach but given the fact that Shrewsbury have not started season to well they may feel that they need some experience in there ranks to stabilise things and ensure there survival in tier 1, in that context this could be a very 'Shrewd' piece of business ( pun intended!) certain times and situations call for certain actions, this may be the signings they need to kick on and have a successful season.

In response to what’s been said I agree, I also prefer BGs approach over younger players. It’s a different situation to the Liam L signing I think. MP and CD are a pairing on the left side and they provided the ammunition for Callum Wilson for a few years, played in a good football system and they’ve now been paired together only 2/3 years after being so good in the PL. And I suspect CDs injuries will have taken a toll. Of course they are older now and it may not work and it probably wouldn’t have happened had Shrewsbury been mid table or above. When I saw CD had signed last week I was surprised because I don’t think he’s been anywhere else except London and Bournemouth so to arrive in the West Midlands at his age was strange but it begins to make sense with MPs signings, esp with them being big mates off the pitch as well. UTG!

Lee Mansell - Signed at 32 Steve Mildenhall - Signed at 35 Jermaine Easter - Signed at 32 Andy Monkhouse - Signed at 33
I much prefer a mixture.

They’ve only been signed until January, so if they don’t help turn it around the6 can sack Ricketts before the January window to allow his successor to sign his preferred players without these two using up what will probably be a substantial piece of the budget.
