Plymouth v Pompey on sky tonight two very good sides playing nice fast attacking football , the way league 1 should be. A joy to watch after the crap I’ve put up with these last 11 months. You’ve been spoilt for possession you cheeky sod!

This isn't really true is it, much of the squad that had us up to 4th couldn't wait to get away at the first opportunity and his treatment of Bennett and Ogogo was nothing short of shameful imo. His poor man-management wasn't just restricted to inherited players either as Josh Barrett could tell you. Ogogo situation was a mystery, and a mistake I think. Somebody previously mentioned that Barrett didn't come up to scratch re. his fitness - this was prior to his injury. Bennett had been told he wasn't in the plans and to look for another club - I agree it was poor for nobody at the club to contact him in the interim, although not sure what else they could have said if they did. A person can be liked and respected, those opinions don't have to be mutually exclusive. Not every manager needs to have the hairdryer treatment in his toolkit - ever heard of emotional intelligence? There is no one-size fits all approach, however we’ve seen both possible extremes at Rovers recently. Look at Coughlan, not a nice character but had his players running through walls. Garner may have had the respect of his players, but it didn’t look like they were repaying him by running through walls for him though.

Very surprised by the timing, but the club have still made the right call by acting now. Liked Ben, but I don't think he arrived with the right attitude. Felt to me that he wanted to stamp his authority immediately and didn't go about it the right way with the senior players. This is probably down to a combination of being a first-time number one and perhaps some weird feelings about being overlooked the first time around when, in my opinion, he might have expected to be given the job. This season he just wasn't up to the challenge of bringing together a squad of new faces and getting performances out of them. Very few managers are, but especially newer ones. Interesting observation...I suspect some element of “small man” syndrome. He seemed to want to be rid of anyone with any authority and, as the guys on the podcast mentioned, doubled down on it by bringing in someone just as inexperienced as he was to be his coach when it was crying out for someone wiser. Was he afraid of his authority being undermined by having clever and successful people around him? He certainly didn’t lack for hubris. It makes me wonder where the nice guy stuff has come from because whilst he might be a nice guy in his private life, in public his media persona was of a man who was quick to lay the blame everywhere except at his own door. That isn’t “nice”, in my book. I'm not sure either where this "nice guy" has come from? Let's face it, our coverage as fans had been a few post-match interviews, where he has held himself up as a sniffling college tutor running college football with a college team. The man blames the ref every match and people are here like "well, he seemed like a nice guy to me" 🤣 Whiny, abrasive, entitled. 3 words I'd pick for BG. Personally, can't see where "nice guy" fits.

Yep, very dislikable based on his media work, that’s not to say he isn’t a totally different person on the training pitch and the players like him etc. But we the fans only see him in front of the camera so like you I’m surprised so many conclude that he’s a nice guy. I think it partly comes down to that adage about “nice” being what you say to be complimentary about someone when you can’t find any other qualities worth highlighting. We can’t exactly trumpet his managerial record so it’s like “hey, at least he’s nice....I guess”

Unacceptable shape for a pro athlete to be in these past couple of years. Agree. Should never have been signed in the first place. When a player is in that state though he needs to be managed into shape or managed out of the club.
