Can you name one good L1 manager who's out of work/would consider joining us? Reflecting on this, why do they need to be out of a job? Why can't we go and nab another team's manager - plenty of others do it. I'm not saying we would necessarily want them (ahem Barton), but could we go and try and pinch the manager of Donny, Fleetwood, Accrington, Crewe, Lincoln etc. etc. If a big L1 team came and did this to us we wouldn't be surprised so why wouldn't we do it? And if we could, any that appeal? Why would Donny, Lincoln or Fleetwood's managers consider Rovers, that would just be a sideways move, I can't see Coleman would move this far south and Crewe's manager has nothing better on his CV than Tisdale or Flynn.

For me it’s got to be 1. Cook (far too out of our reach though) 2. Daniel Stendel I believe we should do everything we can to get them into the club. The other candidates being touted just dont excite me if I’m honest. I don't get the obsession with Stendel, he seems to have had one decent season at Barnsley followed by a couple of shockers: "On 8 October 2019, Stendel was sacked as head coach (of Barnsely) following a run of ten games without a win. Stendel was appointed manager of Scottish club Hearts in December 2019, on a contract due to run until the summer of 2022. Hearts were bottom of the 2019–20 Scottish Premiership at the time the league was suspended, and were subsequently relegated when the league was curtailed. Stendel had a clause in his contract which meant that it was no longer in effect if Hearts were relegated from the Premiership" Tisdale's apparently not wanted as he just had the one poor season with MK Dons. Define obsession, making Stendel my number 2 is hardly an obsession? But that isn't quite some bending of what happened, isn't it Topper? You've stated here about Stendel "followed by a couple of shockers". Yes he went on a 10 game run without a win (with a poor team by Championship standards) but what you've forgotten is that Tisdale was fired for failing to win ANY games in L1 with MK Dons. Do you want to go check wikipedia for how many games it was? I think you'll find the answer quite ironic. You also somehow seemed to miss that he actually got Barnsley promoted. When did Tisdale ever get promoted from League 1? In fact, how much experience does Tisdale have in L1? I'll tell you - he has 2 seasons. One where they finished 8th, straight after their double promotion from NL, and then he got Exeter relegated after that. He was never able, in 4 years, to get them promoted. It was only when he took charge of MK Dons, who had a great squad for L2 and were just relegated, did he manage to get them promoted. Which guess what, he had 9 games and only managed to get a single point before being fired. Whilst Stendel didn't do too well at Hearts, he carried on their form and was only in charge for 16 games. Which is funny as his season in the Championship with Barnsley was only 11 games long where they'd picked up 6 points - so I'm not quite sure your statement of "one decent season followed by a couple of shockers" holds water. His performance in all competitions for Hearts wasn't bad with a 30% win rate and only -3 GD, which isn't bad for a relegated team. On top of that, they were starting to pick up some points just as the season was stopped from Covid and Scotland decided to end the season and relegated Hearts. When Stendel also left Barnsley, fans were outraged at the decision by the board. Perhaps to flip it back on you, where is the evidence that Tisdale can take us further? This would pretty much be the most successful he would have ever managed at. For me Tisdale is just another Garner who thinks he's some thought leader and special.

There's no evidence any manager can take us further but I'd sooner employ one who already lives locally then a foreign manager who's never managed a club like Rovers. As far as him being another BG, if that is the case he won't then, hopefully, he won get past the interview stage. Although what are you going to do if Tisdale gets the job?

Tisdale now a massive 1/8 odds on favourite with Bet Victor and 1/6 with Sky Bet. Bookies just balancing their book.

Tommy Widderington has said on camera pretty much that he doesn't want the job and he's still 2nd favourite.
I think beginning of next week will be clearer

Martyn Starnes has made it quite clear that the guy has to work within the structure of the club and buy into the ethos. Many managers have huge egos and want to be seen to be in control of things that are not going to be available at Rovers and obviously we have an existing framework of people who look after the players and it seems that the club want to safeguard their roles without having a complete upheaval. Tranfers for example are vetted by 2 or 3 people and it is not just down to the manager and so this may be a sticking point. i suspect that this will put a lot of the " names" off before discussions even start .

In his first season there he got them promoted into league one. He was sacked last season after nine games without a win, but had to play all those games without his top three strikers. DC called a legend for what he did for us, one promotion. From Nat league and one up to league one. Tisdale did exactly that with Exeter as well as the MK promotion.

How much has he managed in to league one? I make it 2.5 seasons.

TBH I have no idea who would be a good appointment. Sometimes managers just find something that falls into place. I get annoyed when Holloway gets mentioned as we fell short when our front pairing scored 22 goals...... each (& that's just the league) Blackpool getting to the Premier league seems to be the only - & very big - success. We have a good squad. Will prospective managers look at it thinking they have a good starting point or wonder why the defence is shaky when individually they are good players. If we'd kept Tony Craig and let him organize the defence and appointed an attack minded manager we'd be flying IMO Really need to not just only look at prospective managers results but also what their previous budgets and backroom staff consisted of

However you then do get managers who struggled before and will struggle at the next job but the thing that you say and I have said before is that sometimes a manager and a club just fit while that same manager might have not fitted at the previous club or might get a job at another club after success and flop badly there. Most managers will get sacked, IMO its how that manager learns from his mistakes and whether he uses those mistakes to change his ways in certain situations or he is too stubborn to admit his mistakes and try to recitfy them in his next job.

I listened to both Tisdale interviews and he has a huge amount of experience to offer aswell as being an exact match to what we know Wael is looking for. He definitely is not a Garner type. Do not be put off by his dress sense if that becomes a factor for some.

Tisdale v Gas in all games v Exeter Won 5 Lost 5 Drawn 2 MK Lost 1. I believe his win percentage for his last three seasons in the league is 50%.

Whats wrong with him being a foreigner? Never managed a club like Rovers? What fits your definition then? He's managed Hannover, Barnsley and Hearts - whilst Tisdale has managed Team Bath, Exeter and MK Dons. What will I do if Tisdale gets the job? I'll support him, obviously. When do Rovers ever get our number 1 choice? What did you expect me to say here? 'Yah good point Topper, I guess I'll just never support the club again...'?

How much has he managed in to league one? I make it 2.5 seasons. And only 1 season has ben successful in L1, the other was relegation and the other fired. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Tisdale would do ok - but I don't understand the love affair after an interview where he sells himself. Every time I listen to DC I end up thinking, 'Come back DC' - before then actually thinking it's probably not the best idea. If we really want to push on then I believe we need a manager who knows L1 better and the standard of players in this division. Tisdale is a L2 manager at the end of the day. Look at DC, his background was in NL - he knew phenomenal players for that division. When we moved up, his signings got worse each time before he'd probably have taken us back down. Then GC came in, a guy who knows L1 very well. The standard of players were an obvious increase on DC's team, IMO. Finally Ben, whilst he was obviously a failure, I think the players we've brought are of a very high standard. Even if we're not going to get a manager who's achieved promotion from L1 then we certainly need someone with good L1/Championship pedigree IMO.

Personally I am not concerned that Tisdale couldn't keep Exeter in L1. They were overachieving for 3 years to be at that level in my opinion.
The only real blot on his copybook is his final season with MK and even then most managers would have struggled losing their 3 best strikers to injury. I doubt we'd be fairing any better without Hanlan, Daly and Ayunga. Would DC have got promoted from the Conference and L2 if Taylor and Harrison missed months with injury? Would Coughlan have kept us in L1 without JCH?
Tisdale has been a manager for 20 years. It's true only 3.5 of those years were in L1 but that was partly down to his loyalty to Exeter. He turned down opportunities to manage in L1 and the Championship to try and finish the job he'd started there.
I don't think there is a massive difference managing in L1 to L2 and I don't think he's really had a fair chance to show he can be a success at this level.
I still think Cook would be my first choice but I'd be happy and fairly optimistic if Tisdale got the job.

Interesting point about managers and egos . Which Gas manager in the last 30 yrs had the biggest ego and who had the smallest ? Having an ego goes with the job as a football manager doesn’t it ?
