In case anyone missed it in the moment, Tommy Widdrington is temporarily in charge of first team affairs.
Which does feel like an odd appointment to me as there are plenty of people who could cover him.
I was going to post this on the other thread but it has many interesting implications.
I.e. does this mean the assistant Jack Mesure is also moving on?
What about Kevin Maher, who has previously covered for BG and been touted as an option to manage Southend?
Lee Mansell? Hargreaves?

I guess he has proven he is the most competent at his current job in fairness to him and has theea most trust of the bosrd, and he has previous managerial experience.

I think the board just wanted previous managerial experience to steady the ship in the interim. TW knows the players and sounds like a decent bloke, so I think he’ll make a decent caretaker.

I forgot about Jack Mesure - he's hardly had time to unpack his suitcase, and it's all gone belly up.
I guess that Widdrington knows the players well, and, as he doesn't want the job permanently, there won't be any of the stigma of returning to his original role, as might be the case with the others. He's also got some managerial experience to bring to the table.

Go, Widders...
I'm behind him. Good luck, Widderington. Who knows? He might do a GC and manage his way into the frame?
It literally cannot be worse...

I've heard him first hand stay he doesn't want to be a manager any more, plus many times in interviews since. I'd be amazed if he ends up our permanent manager.

The bookies have him as 2/1 odds on favourite but it's early days yet so I wouldn't read too much into that.
Those odds will be based on historical data relating to the percentage of temporary managers who subsequently become permanent.
Food for thought though.

I'd be amazed if he ends up our permanent manager. Rolling up merrily at Sunderland to watch GC a few years ago, we were thinking the same. I'm not saying lightning strikes twice. Just.....you never know. And whom is best qualified to know everything about our new signings? 🤔

Paul Cook for me, got Pompey out of League two then followed that up by getting Wigan up to the Championship shortly afterwards. Still in his fifties with loads of experience.

what about chris hargreaves! Not sure his record was that strong at Torquay. For that reason, I'm not too keen. Could surprise like Francis though.

I would imagine that being Head of Recruitment is a far more secure job than being in the Manager's office.

I think Tom will probably do well simply because he has no designs on the becoming our permanent manager.

He’s also the one who’s brought in all the players so will know all there is to know about them.

Seems a good caretaker choice. The transfer window is closed and we have tons of new players anyway. So TW probably causes less disruption to the club. Hargreaves and mansell already have jobs to do. No point in disrupting the youth set up as well as the first team. The existing 2 coaches can work with TW with little disruption.
It's important that TW remains in his recruitment position though as he has done well finding players so far on the whole. It's also good long term to have someone who can step in short term as caretaker who wont be seen as a threat to a new manager.

Whilst I'm not shocked he's gone given his record, I am still shocked it was today.
Irrelevant of the fact I believe it was the right call, we had just progressed in the cup and results had generally improved (not hard I guess).
So.... I do wonder whether we've maybe lined someone up?? That might explain Widdrington being given the gig - I.e it's a token appointment that's irrelevant as someone will be in place for the next game? (or at worst, the game after).
As I say, I can't say I don't fully support the decision, but I'm surprised it's happened nonetheless and that we didn't even wait for an hour after the game to announce it? Very swift indeed.
