If you look at the history of the word Forum it talks about public debate and free speech. Life on here though is very differrent. To me there is a group that really are the school girl bully group, who if you criticise Wael, Starne, the club, an incoming manager or anything else, then just like that school girl gang one person will make an unpleasant remark, and then the others join in.
Personally I find its pathetic. When Garner came to the club and managed to take us down 10 places it was "for the good of the club". "It's because the club has to be sustainable ". "We need to play better football"
I disagreed with all of that. We had a chance of a play off place and blew it. The income they bring would have been good for the club.
But the gang said, next season..... and next season arrived and most of the previous team were broken up and our "new and exciting" team was to be built around playing passing football.
Then we started, and it was no longer about winning, "just look at the stats". "Wow that was the best goal ever" were some of the comments on here. We support Ben. Personally I found Bens interviews and Bens football some of the most boring football I have seen in recent years. I really didn't think a lot of him. and of course I received lots of abuse * ( Ref: free speech)
Sadly I dont think a lot of Tisdale either. His appointment "Ticks the boxes". Well I would add to be an improvement on Garner, cannot be that difficult. Lets get back to the boxes. History of exciting football. Really? Are we saying all Exeters games were exciting? Of course not, every club has boring games. He developed players and sold them on. Well we have been doing that for years, Paul Randall is an example. Or are we going to develop even more and more players? Will we reamain a football club, or a one stop get your new players here outfit.
Then Wael says we want to be in the Championship. Tisdale has won promotions, Yes he has, to the first Division, and neither developed in to a long career in the First Division. At the moment we are in Division One, we need someone, one day and hopefully before we all die off to take us up. I would like it to be Tisdale, but I have my doubts. Paul Cook was my first choice. And here we have the clubs big lie ("No the club doesnt lie" they say).
Whilst they say "we will take our time, interviews, blah blah" And the forum has a poll, truth is Starner has already phoned Tisdale and given him the job. You see, they do lie; well Starner does.
I have met Wael on a number of occaisions and he is a nice, pleasant man who fortunately for us is wealthy. I like him. But for me the man who saved the club from going under, brought us back to Bristol and purchased our own ground for the first time since the 40's will remains my favourite. You have to ask whether Wael would have bought the club if we were still renting the ground.
Now apart from the information about me that I have released , there is only one person on here who knows who I am. Everyone knows I was a teacher and often refer to it on here, especially if I make a spelling mistake or dont explain my ideas thoroughly. As a teacher, the odd spelling mistake was a challenge to see what kids would notice, it was the bright ones who did. But I gave up teaching some 8 years ago, and now run a security business, which I wish I had done earlier.
The only reason I mentioned being a teacher was because I taught Jason Roberts and Nathan Ellington, but the truth is, I taught 4 other lads all of whom went on to play professsional football. One of them is now Assistant manager at Chelsea.
Now on to the personal remarks people make. Obviously we are all guilty of it at times. But it was nice to see Pirate confess and appologise. His "Perhaps you would be better watching Frome" comment was I though a bit sarcastic. But the truth is, before this second Lockdown I did go, and I enjoyed it. Live football, good atmoshphere, good food and drink, cover on all sides of the ground and one price, stand or sit where you like; versus at home watching a match on a screen, no atmosphere and only one camera. A no brainer for me, but then I was born in Frome, and the Town was the first team I watched. (I was about 6).
The other remark that I have had, and I suspect others have hadas well is "Why dont you f**k off down to the Gate. "What? Sit in a modern stadium and watch Championship football? How dare you say that!". Absolutley non sensical.
It is time that everyone on here took a step back and thought about what they are saying because some of you are really like that little girl gang with some of your comments, and as individuals I would hope we dont need to pile in as some of you do. It is ok not to "love" everything about Rovers. I know for some people it is everything, and their only interest. For me it was, and I missed out on holidays because I never want to to miss an opening game, or any game. Bt after 2,000 plus, and 94 grounds (most ex league like Stockport and Darlington) I now dont mind missing a few, because you can always watch it later.
But lets all think about the people we only know by what they post, before we say something unpleasant. And for everyone. It's ok to be different, it's ok not to agree with everything Bristol Rovers say, or do.
