Surprised nobody's brought this up before seeing as we'll be playing at the 'new Plough Lane'.
So how has a club, with less support than us, fulfilled their goal of building a new ground within 15 years of their demise after the MK Dons fiasco? Also, within Greater London, not some out of town development on a trading estate and within shooting range of their old ground.
Same goes for Brentford - a club who always seemed to be on the same level as us in the old Third Division - now storming ahead in the league above with a new ground and great setup.
Meanwhile we're still waiting........

Well both have teamed up with house-builders, and both are the only professional football club within their local authority, which allows more direct help than could be given by BCC to either team in Bristol.
And perhaps both have been better run?

And so it goes on and on and on.We are 92 in the rankings stadium wise now with Macclesfield gone and Wimbledon in a new home.As I have pointed out previously non league grounds around here are improving their facilities but meanwhile our Dickensian set-up was there for all to see v Darlington. So embarrassing.Used to think it couldn't go on forever with the only progress yet another small tent but on and on it goes.My fear is that the EFL will tell us to sort it or else and we'll end up Ground sharing.City so far ahead now they are out of sight. Stoke is a deprived area with many social problems and has major issues with poverty, unemployment and drug abuse and yet both Stoke and Port Vale have far better set-ups as have tiny Crewe Alex. All very close to me. Leadership both on and off the field sadly lacking but will never lose the faith. Not even the glimmer of a proper stand at the Mem on the horizon.Geoff Dunford told us at an open day that the plan was to extend the DRIBUILD the whole length of the pitch. We were also promised the Mem would be redeveloped and to choose our seats at Cheltenham whilst it was being constructed. Then the UWE farce.Too old now to have any real prospect of seeing our stadium rise from number 92 in the rankings. Will remain loyal but it isn't easy.

I completely agree. What shocked me most was the filthiness of the ground in the live images from the Darlo game. The place is so run down and dirty. It looks an absolute mess.

Off the top of my head: Shrewsbury, Walsall, Burton, Swansea, Cardiff, Rotherham, Brighton - all teams we used to play regularly, now with new and improved grounds.
We must be the only club unable, for some reason, to get close to building anything like they've all got now. You can't blame the Council as they've not stood in our way with the last few 'projects'.

Probably doesn't help that we keep changing our minds from partial redevelopment to complete redevelopment to new build to who knows.
I suspect we could sell the Mem (£15m?) and build something like Shrewsbury's ground (£12m) but anything more ambitious will need additional funds (UWE being £40m+).
A couple of new stands would cost £10m and bring the Mem up to a decent standard but that money would be sunk costs as I doubt it would really generate much additional revenue outside of match day prices.

Some clubs have older grounds that are quite nice.... Some clubs have new grounds that are quite nice....
We've got a 1980's relic that would look out of date in Belarus....

It's great for them and obviously better than the mem. Didn't I read that it will have one new stand and 3 temporary stands at first. I can imagine the meltdown, if we announced similar. Suppose it's a way of getting it done and then they can improve it in the future

Trust me you’ll all miss standing on the terraces when you’re all sat in a soulless bowl on the outskirts of town with no decent pubs and sat next to someone too big for the seat or the 7 foot guy sat in front.

I don't know why everyone is worrying about it. If it happens it happens. If not then it won't be for the lack of trying to find somewhere. By the looks of things there aren't that many sites suitable in Bristol so it is not going to be easy. Housing is always going to be a more profitable option rather than a football stadium....especially in todays financial climate. London clubs have far more space than us. I live in the middle of Somerset yet there is far more green space for people to go to in London than here. The Mem is a ramshackle, run down site but it is ours. As much as I would love a new stadium I would rather have financial stability and remain in the league/existence at the moment. Wael has stated so many times that he wants a new stadium so lets worry about the actual game of football and leave the stadium building up to those who have the ability to do something about it.

From 2016 until 2020 I also thought this was the case, all style and no substance. I’m hopeful over the next few years that will change under AQ v2.0.
