Did well today.Wasn't really first choice at Walsall when we signed him and not a player likely to play at a higher level but he really puts in a shift and despite defensive frailties he works his socks off and always seemed to be very involved.Coupled with his penalty taking success , growing to think he is an important squad player.Improving so pleased for him. Reminds me of Jake Gosling in his Profile pic but much more involved.

Massive weak link IMO and along with Hare is a priority to be replaced. He did well in the opposition half today but he’s a terrible defender. Don’t mean to sh*t on a good result and great attacking performance but some of our defending today was a joke. Thank god we’ve pull off some of the best attack I’ve seen from us for a long time

Wasn't really first choice at Walsall when we signed him Staffs.... facts are available. Luke played in 44 of Walsall's 46 League games the season before he joined us (and a further 9 cup matches)

Just as a side issue.... We wouldn't have got out of the conference when we did without gosling....

Personally I think Leahy is massively underrated by many. He is solid but unspectacular at defending, can put a tackle in and going forward is generally composed, pretty quick, can beat a man and has a great cross. He’s by no means a world beater but is pretty solid and more than adequate in league one. The times we’ve been caught out on his side is when he’s been caught out of position having pushed on and the ball has been played into the space behind him..

I noticed on of the wombles attacks down our left flank, he and Grant moved to block the same player leaving another unmarked.
I am sure that with time they will become better organised

Not sure if comparing Leahy to Hare is fair. Leahy bought as a left back who now gets forward, Hare as a right winger who has had to defend. Playing with wing backs has shown the positives and negatives for both

I like Leahy a lot. Takes his criticism on th chin an gets about it. Is he as talented/gifted as others around him....maybe not but hey bit like th rest of us then in life.
I think teams like ours alwaes need a few lads who are grateful ta play th great game at professional level like Leahy, Gosling, Stanley etc. They've worked hard ta get where they are an wanna give everything for their team.

It seems Tisdale disagrees with the doubters on here as he seems to be using him as a vital member of the team, given that he's given corner duties to him. It's good to see PT's brought back the experience pros like Leahy & Upson.

Said at the start I had no issue with Leahy being first choice. But i do think in Kolki and Tutonda we might now have better.
Good player. And some very good options in that positon.

View AttachmentI'm pretty certain he was their first choice tbh as he played over 50 games in all competitions including over 40 league games in both his previous 2 seasons for Walsall. Anyhow, completely agree with you he played very well, I think the competition bought into the club has given him a kick up the arse.

I think Tutonda and Kolki will have to bide their time to get back in the 1st 11 as they're still both a bit raw. Josh Hare has a pinpoint cross on him, mind, but has gone off the build recently in that department. He's a solid pro too. I was going to give yesterday's game a miss after Tuesday but changed my mind when I saw the line-up with Westbrook back in behind the wizard that is Oz and Upson.

Still cannot defend, just look at yesterday stupidly kept the ball in for a Wimbledon attacker in the second half and we were lucky they squandered the opportunity. What he was doing running away from the Gillingham attacker in the build up to their second goal on Wednesday was beyond belief.
Liability Leahy is just that and needs replacing ASAP.

Most of the team had an off day v Gillingham at least they put things right yesterday, regardless it's not me now giving Leahy corner etc duties. Unless Tutonda has been rested lately it seems PT doesn't rate it him at all.

For me when we play a 4-4-2, he is the best left back we have right now. Tutonda and Kolki are probably better wing backs but they can still be coached to play a more traditional full back role.
Anyone who wants to see a new left back will probably have to wait until the summer. PT wont be able to sign too many players in January and I imagine he has greater concerns he wants to fix in other positions first.

In my opinion, Leahy is currently the best left back at the club. Clearly, he is not the most skilful left sided player we've got but he's the best left sided full backs. If we are going to employ wing backs ( and I hope not!), there are better players than Leahy in that role. The defensive weakness I feel Leahy's got is his inability to close the attacker down in the defensive third. This allows the opposition to get too many crosses in from his flank. If that element of his game improved, he would be a very decent L1 full back.

It's good to see PT's brought back the experience pros like Leahy & Upson. Tisdale had basically picked the most experienced starting 11 he could and then told them to go out on the pitch and play. Given the quality of player we have in the squad at the moment that can't be a bad thing, and at least we're less likely to be bullied off the pitch.
