Yep the ball over the top is the one that really troubles us. Problem is we’ve got plenty of centre backs but nobody quick so a striker playing off the shoulder running on to a through ball almost always results in a shot. Yes. We’re at our most vulnerable to these balls. Twice on Saturday Argyle should have scored and a more in-form striker would have in those situations. Alfie, with little pace is weakest when when running back. And although Ehmer has played well at FB, Charlton will be a step up as opposition. Fingers crossed. UTG! Speed of mind as well as speed of foot is required. I’d say positional sense and anticipation is probably more important than being a fast runner. I don’t recall John Terry in his later years getting caught by balls over the top or even now with Thiago Silva at Chelsea. When the Plymouth striker got through on Saturday I thought it was more a case of poor positional play from Kilgour than his lack of pace.

This will be a tough game. Charlton are one of the top teams in the division. Apart from Lincoln and Sunderland, we have been easily rolled over by such teams.

I would agree with eric that although some of the goals we have conceded have been down to lack of pace they have more been caused by poor positioning to start with which is down to lack of concentration not lack of pace.Pace is usually about recovering when you or a team mate have made a mistake. Not many centre halves who are strong in the air are very quick. England/Tottenham/Man United have exactly the same problem with people like Dyer and Maguire to name two.

The Valley is for some reason a bit of a jinx ground.
Interesting to see if Tisdale's new found approach to attacking front foot football overcomes the bogey ground element
This is definitely a challenge, hope the team can get a result.
If they do, well, who knows........

All the times I have been to the Valley Charlton have always given Rovers a tough match. I will be very happy with a point, but tbh not expecting too much.

This will be an extremely tough fixture and any points gained would be great. My heart tells me we will continue our good form and come away with a narrow win but my head says the opposite. Would settle for a point. I would expect to see the same starting 11 from Saturday barring any further injuries to keep building momentum. Whatever the result tomorrow it’s just nice to be looking forward to seeing the boys in blue and white playing again. And thanks to the op for these posts I really enjoy reading your stat threads.

They've got a new owner, a Dane worth 350 million so should be heading straight back up. Football's a funny old game though. 5-5 I reckon. £350m in footballing terms is not that great a sum to allow an owner to just "buy" promotion, most likely Wael's worth something similar, or at least the ALQ's were. Turning to the match I assume fans will be allowed in tomorrow night before London then goes into Tier 3 on Wednesday, which is just our luck this season.

I can't see see us winning, as we never win at the Valley added to that Charlton look strong at home this season. I'd take a draw, win and we'll be really motoring under PT, hopefully we don't get stuffed 3-0 and so all come crashing back to earth.

If they are strong from wide as that summary suggests we may have a different set up to the Plymouth game. We gave a lot of space away on the flanks which seemed by design in the way Tisdale spoke afterwards. Form suggests goals whatever the result!
3-3. Hanlan/Nicholson/Ehmer

Perhaps eric but if you’re out of position and have little pace then you’re completely b*******. But you’re right, Alfie was out of position on those balls over the top and he needs to think how he’ll get better in dealing with it. UTG!

From Charlton's forum: "Oh dear sorry about this guys but we have a really poor ref on charge Tuesday , we have had history with this bloke with on more then one occasion His name is Darren Drysdale ...." Perhaps we might get our first win at the Valley since 1958 after all! newsimages.photoshelter.com/image/I0000Pn1K91qG_j0

History means absolutely nothing in football.
It’s just a collection of results that happen to have not gone our way for a long time.
We have as much chance of winning this game as if we were playing any of the top six away. Which is admittedly low, but the fact that it’s Charlton means nothing.
This is only contradicted by the universal laws that we always win at oxford and the 82ers always best middlesborough

It will be Tisdale's biggest challenge in terms the opposition's quality but I fancy us to come away with a point and maybe even nick all 3! Any updates on Ozzy? I know he wouldn't be allowed to play against his parent club but just looking at oxford at home on Saturday.

Charlton are a good side and on fire at the moment at home you have to fancy them. Anything other than a loss will be a good result, Hope I'm eating those words ten O clock tomorrow. UTG

Apart from Peterborough this is probably the toughest test we could face away from the Mem.

UTG not strictly true,. Yes they cam back from being 2-1 down to Wimbledon to win 5-2 on Saturday but the game before that at The Valley they lost to MK Dons 1-0. I expect both teams to create a lot of chances - so it might well be down to who takes their chances and how well the keepers do.
