So far, like us, Charlton have played a number of formations in their matches this season. the most recent involved 4 at the back and either a diamond or 4-3-1-2. The goals have come mainly from their front players of Conor Washington (6) and Chuks Aneke(5)
Aneke 2.3 takes the most Shots per game
Gas comparison: Nicholson 2.1 and Hanlan 1.9
Key passes per game for them is Alfie Doughty 1.7 Macauley Bonne 1.3 and Ian Maatsen 1.1
Gas comparison: Westbrooke 1.9 & Josh Hare 1.4 with Ozzy on 1.1
Winning the ball back are Alfie Doughty 2.4 and Ian Maatsen 1.8 and Darren Pratley 1.7 Tackles per game
Gas comparison: Cian Harries 2.2 with Mark Little 2.0 then Josh Grant 1.8 & Dave Tutonda with 1.7 (only one of these now seem make the starting XI so Baldwin 1.5 and WESTBROOKE 1.3 are worth showing)
Clearances per game wise they have 4 defenders Ryan Innis 7.4 (impressive) Akin Famewo 4.4, Charlie Barker 4.3 and Chris Gunter 4.1
Gas comparison: Cian Harries 5.8, Jack Baldwin 5.3, Max Ehmer 4.6 and Luke Leahy 3.3
*Please note - League stats only
+ Strengths
Shooting from direct free kicks Very Strong
Finishing scoring chances Very Strong
Protecting the lead Strong
- Weaknesses
Stopping opponents from creating chances Weak
Avoiding individual errors Weak
Avoiding fouling in dangerous areas Very Weak
Defending against long shots Very Weak
Charlton's Style of Play
Play with width
Attacking down the right
Long balls
Opponents play aggressively against them
Rotate their first eleven
Aggressive
Playing in their own half
So Charlton seem to fiddle with their formation and personnel as much as we have over the season so far, be it planned, tactical or other wise... they find themselves 5th so can't have been bad. Looking at their weaknesses, if we can do what we have been doing, Sammy and Brandon may get some decent chances or pull some fouls in dangerous areas for Westy to exploit. I expect a relatively open game as we'll press them into mistakes and they will hit us with balls in behind or over the top. I suspect no changes to the line up for Saturday as Ozzy is contractually unavailable. Maybe Jaakkola will be fit but for now I'll leave JvS in.

---Ehmer---- Kilgour ------- Baldwin ------Leahy---
-----Westbrooke------- Grant --------- Upson-----

---------------Hanlan--------Nicholson------------
Both sides will be in a confident mood coming into this one, so really hard to predict the outcome. I feel that Charlton will be more likely to finish the sort of chances that we conceded against Plymouth so we will probably see goals! My prediction : Hard earned point against a decent team (2-2).
What do you think? What would you do?
