This forum isn’t like your local parish council it’s more like your local pub. Behave like a dick and the publicans might not let you back in again. You have to push them pretty far to get to that point though.
Pubs? Remember them. Sigh.

I’ll never take the dark, gloomy, wretched hive of scum and villainy that is the Patchway labour and social club for granted ever again. 💙

I was a moderator for a brief time and gave it up because of the kind of stuff on this thread.
It's a thankless task. Very little praise, frequent criticism. I've been a member of the secret cabal and their devious manipulations and I can assure you it's all nonsense.
They are just ordinary fans and Gaschat posters trying to keep some kind of order and civility whilst preserving freedom to speak as far as possible.
Not a role most would be happy with. Poacher and gamekeeper at the same time.

It brings back some hazy memories of my youth...although I consider myself more of a Patchway sports and social club alumni personally!

It brings back some hazy memories of my youth...although I consider myself more of a Patchway sports and social club alumni personally! I remember talking to an elderly Mother of a notorious Patchway rogue one Christmas at the Labour Club when a fight broke out and two bodies ended up under our table. The grand old lady simply picked up her glass without a drop being spilled and carried on talking. A surreal moment.

It’s a conversation for a different thread and probably a different forum but it will never cease to amaze me how some parents can normalise such behaviour from their offspring.

You’ve seen it all! Mind you I can’t be far behind. I think I first started using the official forum during Gray Ray’s tenure because I couldn’t hold it in any longer about how sh**e we were. It feels like we are barely any better (on the pitch) some 15+ years later!

I still enjoy the forum and the way it's moderated. That's it, you want to be a dick about yourself and get banned that's your problem. And relax. Even if you get banned without breaking one of the forum rules. Ok, enough said. Who?

As somewhat of a free speech extremist, the whole concept of moderation is alien to me as I have an inner revulsion at the idea of anyone controlling what anyone else has to say. To me, the whole concept is off. I’d rather hear things which upset me than see that person censored and have their mouth shut, and this only has a boundary at direct, credible threats, and in read in context. The concept seems cowardly, deceitful and spiteful. Note - this is not aimed at our mods, it’s general comment on the nature and scope of censorship and moderation. I reacted badly recently when a.n other poster didn’t like something written and called for mods to intervene. This really rubs me up wrong more than the moderation itself. This board is not generally harshly moderated. Although I’ve been ticked off once or twice, it wasn’t done in a bad way and I accept that I am the anomaly, my views are the minority and I can’t live in a world where everything is perfect. I also know that some modding is done for the optics of the board. Regardless of if the mods believe in the right to speech, they will be held liable. A bit like when a manager has to give you a hard time because if he doesn’t, he will be questioned why he didn’t! I just hope one day other people will see the benefit in giving up their wishes to censor others as it ensured ones owns positions are able to be aired. I have heard many things which upset me, but I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to genuinely take their freedom to be stupid and ignorant away. To me, that’s machievelian, underhand and I feel shows a lack of courage. Please done anyone take this as an attack, I’m just rambling about moderation in general given this is the topic at hand. And to endorse the moderators here who despite my feelings on this I feel are pretty good compared to others. Excellent post. I believe nothing wrong with most things in moderation. Except moderating.

Swissgas, but it appears that one of the Mods has accepted the error and reinstated Swissgas. There’s fragrant power wielding banning, and then there is misunderstanding a situation with a posters history in mind and making a mistake. To my knowledge, there never has been anyone banned just because the mod has the power to do so. The reason is there are over 8 mods on this board so when we have a dispute others can take emotion out of any restriction and offer a different perspective and opinion. The difficulty comes when there are only 1 or 2 mods on line, you have a high post count going on and a few disputes to manage. Which was case in point on Saturday. Somerset and myself took one incident each, had a quick chat about it, and acted with how we saw fit at the time. That was reversed once other mods got involved on a much quieter day and everyone had slept.

I think, in the greater scheme of things, there are more things to worry about. Personally, I asked a very direct question, which was answered. Can we move on. If the original poster is indeed unwell, good luck mate Well said Oldie. Get well soon Gasincider, we can't afford to lose any more Gasheads. x

There is nothing wrong with his opinion, he doesnt like moderation, some people hate being told what to do in life regardless of whatever it is, which is why some people hate the police, they hate the fact they get told what to do. But he still has to post by the rules, which he does, so hes welcome to stay.
