I was fortunate enough to go to Buenos Aires and Rio last March just before lockdown. We managed to go to 8 games in 9 days before having to cut the trip short but we did manage to see Boca win the title, leapfrogging River on the last day of the season. Boca scored their winner in the 72nd minute when Carlos Tevez smashed the ball home from the edge of the area. We were at the end where Tevez scored and an outstanding avalanche as they're called in Argentina ensued. An absolutely mental moment which, I wrote about here.
5:50 for the Goal, the bottom tier is the tier we were in;

Went mental for this one. Whole pub was manic. Took about 2-3 minutes for us to realise it hadn't gone in 🙈 Ahh FFS I was in a pub in Spain watching this.. the sound was turned right down, so we didn't hear that it never went in.. plus we were all jumping around. The laughter from the locals was what finally drew attention to the fact that we were still 0-0. What a tournament that was

Another "goal that never was" was Sol Campbell's last minute "winner" in the 2004 Euros quarter final against Portugal. I was watching the game at the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury and the atmosphere was electric. The place was rammed and everyone was buzzing. When Sol Campbell had the ball in the net in the 90th minute the place ERUPTED. Absolutely full on limbs. It was incredible. What a feeling! The slow realisation seeping round the crowd that the goal had been disallowed was just eerie. But not as crushing as the subsequent penalty shoot-out. Robbed. I think I celebrated the Greece goal in the Final quite hard....

For me it has to be Gazza's stunner against Scotland in Euro 96. Never tire of watching it. Same! Was at Wembley for this

Slightly different scenario, but Lampards no goal vs Germany had me believing at the time as well.

For me it has to be Gazza's stunner against Scotland in Euro 96. Never tire of watching it. Agreed. Need to add Gascoigne was the greatest I’ve seen for England in my 38 years. He was a level above in nearly every game he played. Crucially he did this in tournaments. He had it all. Strength, incredible skill, heart, football brain, vision, could tackle, shoot, head and for a man of his stature, he did have some pace. I know he threw a lot of it away and was unlucky with injuries, but to me in ability terms, he was up there with best, zidane, matadona, pele....he was our greatest chance to have a real world class player. If you go and watch some gazza clips you forget how dominant he was. He was ridiculously good in international games, that 96 semi final with Germany - he was post injury and drinking a lot and he was everywhere that game. Shame on you glen hoddle for 1998. He had a shish kebab, probably one of the healthiest fast food option of lean meat and salad. I felt hoddle was exercising some of his own demons for being one of our great players who got overlooked.

A 39 year old Dean Windass goal at Wembley for Hull is up there....
David Beckham's penalty against Argentina in Japan 2002. About 25 of us all with the day off work around a friends house going absolutely mental then playing football in the street after winning with pretty much the whole road.
Not football related but being in Walkabout bar in town when Johnny Wilkinson drop kicked England to win the world cup was pretty amazing too. Im not much of a rugby fan but that was a pretty special morning!

I’m interested to hear people choices including rovers now 👀 mine has to be Sammy Igoe sealing the victory at Wembley! My first promotion with rovers as a real fan (was only 4 in 1980 lol)

Think what is sometimes overlooked is the fact that the game was prob the best one ever at the mem in which Daggers played a full part, hope Taylor has the same shooting boots for to-night!

The two Man U goals v Bayern in the last seconds take some beating, the look of shear devastation on the Germans faces! did i sympathise with them? not a bit!

Dean Windass v City in that play off final. No other non Rovers goal could be celebrated more by me than that one. So late in the game, totally unmarked and what a finish! Hilarious.

Wasn't it actually in the first half, or am I not remembering right? But yes, great feeling to see them lose the biggest game in their recent history!

You are correct jomo, my wishful memory remembers it being in the dying seconds of injury time in the second half and floods of red tears streaming down Wembley way!

Another old thread I've enjoyed.
Any more non Rovers goals you remember fondly ?
I was at Ninian Park when Scott Young scored for Cardiff to beat Leeds in the 2001 ? FA Cup which was pretty well received.

David Platt vs Belgium - Italia 90. It just had everything. Fabulous tournament. Great England team. Stunning goal with seconds to go - that swivel and that volley Wow...... what a goal that was ! I went to the tournament and to this game. It was intimidating-the Italian Carabinieri had trucks outside the stadium with machine guns mounted on top the cabs. I bought a ticket from a tout and ended up among the Belgian supporters. My reflex celebration was not well received but they left me alone.
