When are we going to actually attack a team from the off? Our tactics of closing down in our own half allows the opposition to pass the ball across their back four or five and involves our attacking p0layers having to waste all their energy closing down with no chance of winning the ball. If you are going to play that game at least have them operating in a pack and pressing all the defenders to stop them being able to pass the ball simply along the ground to unmarked players. I suggest people watch Oztumer- can't be faulted for effort as he always trys to close players down but it is a waste of time if he has no back up. It is in games like last night when you realise just how good Upson is at what he does. Tactics from this Manager are shocking and worse than Garner. Mr Tisdale Fantastic is 22 points from 24 ala Oxford. 2 points from 24 is absolutely shocking and the quicker he realises that the better.

The thing that really bugs me the most, is that when Tis initially joined, he stopped black the 5 at the back and had flat back 4 with Ehmer playing right back and Kikgour & baldwin putting in a real sold partnership.
When we played this we looked like a completely different team to the one Garner had set up with a good mix of experience and energy, even with the strike limitations we still have.
But for some reason, Tis has reverted back to the formation that ultimately got Garner the sack!

I agree with you and with Steve192's point that we are setting out to defend, not just in formation, but in where we are choosing to play the game. In possession, we are spending far too much time inviting pressure on ourselves by playing the ball (slowly) across our back 5. Any team with an ounce of sense will press this and the reason it doesn't work, is that our midfield is not dynamic enough to demand the ball and advance forward. I've lost count of the number of times we took a short goal kick or a short free kick only to find 30 seconds later that we were forced into a long ball forward, but off balance and with a lesser chance of meeting the intended target than had we opted for the long ball in the first place. We're not good enough to play this way and it is never a successful tactic at this level. I'm not saying that we should pump the ball long at every opportunity, but that we need to vary our play, aim to play the game in the oppositions half and become less predictable.
I was advocating 4 at the back and still think we are better setting out that way. The only problem I see, is that we started at Accrington that way and got slaughtered. In my opinion, this was due to too many players not fancying the difficult conditions and Accy players having a blinder. But I think it will be some time before we see 4 at the back again because of it.

Couldn't care a toss about how we set up. It's a simple game score at least one more than the opposition and you win. That's all I am asking for but it would appear that none of our players has the ability to do this irrespective of the way we set up. We must now be the lowest scoring team in the football league and I would suggest will still be after the next twenty games. League two looks to be a formality and no thanks to the two idiots who thought we could get away with young unproven strikers. Oxford had three ex Championship strikers on the field at the end of last night's game and their goal scoring record proves that TW and BG did not have a clue about what is required in league one. Very sad times and the silence from the boardroom tells us all we need to know about how the loyal fan base of our club is thought of.
