Interesting article about a Joey Barton interview. Istm this is the sort of interaction that may have led to GC leaving, instead of the all or nothing 'moving closer to home' and the similarly all or nothing 'We weren't going to back him' it's a bit more nuanced, and a bit more 'both sides.' www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/joey-bartons-honest-revelation-newcastle-19806698"He was the brilliant (the chairman). He gave me an enormous opportunity probably when no-one else in world football would. It was always going to be difficult to get an opportunity with my rap sheet. In my mind I was going to go in with Dyche-y (at Burnley) and do an apprenticeship." Barton said that he left Fleetwood after feeling owner and chairman Andrew Pilley wanted to dictate transfer and team matters. He said the pair didn't speak for ten days before he was fired and there became a "disconnect". Explaining what led to his departure at the League One club, he said: "The chairman was good as gold (at first) in that he didn't force his opinion on me as a senior chairman and he let me make a few of my own decisions in terms of transfers - some good, some bad, some indifferent. We finished in the play-offs in the second season. "We came back this time and were trying to rebuild the side and I think what happened was he went into a transfer embargo (he took out an £800,000 loan from the EFL because of coronavirus). A few players were at the end of their cycle - Ched Evans, I'd had enough of him. He just wasn't performing on the pitch and I felt we needed to improve in that position. "When I went to speak to him, he let me know about the embargo which was a lot longer after it had happened than I felt I should have known about it. He said 'We're not going to go in the market or come out of the embargo'. For me I felt to get in the play-offs, and that's what I wanted to do - I want to manage in the Premier League, we all do, that's where I played. "Where we were, eight points out of the play-offs if we get a couple of bodies in we'll be there or thereabouts. We don't need Sergio Aguero but he disagreed and felt we should have gone with the younger players. I was trying to say 'They're young players, we're growing them but they're not ready yet'. "It got to the point where we both couldn't be right."

Would anybody want Barton here? i wouldn't be adverse to it. Fleetwood played some ok stuff under him. We always struggled anyway! In a backs to the wall scenario he seems the perfect fit. Anyway all wonderment as we have PT and his inspirational umm... err.... coat!

Does anyone else think this is a lie:
"Ched Evans, I'd had enough of him. He just wasn't performing on the pitch and I felt we needed to improve in that position".
There's defo more to it than that....

It’s possible, it’s always been Wael’s plan from the start to bring in some stability and play expansive football. GC didn’t fit this mould despite putting us in our best league position for years with a group of overachievers. I don’t disagree with Wael’s long term plan, but installing Garner at the time he did it has led us to this downward spiral we now find ourselves in.

I think Joey did a great job at Fleetwood considering it was his first managerial role. Look how their results have fell away since he left (before last night) and if all the games we have had v Fleetwood over the past three years, what we played against on Saturday was the worst Fleetwood team I’ve seen.. I can remember watching their play off games v Wycombe and nothing went right for them, the keeper threw a few in, red cards, bad penalty calls etc, but they still played really good football all the way through and the players seemed to be playing for him. The us against the world mentality rarely fails to work.

There’s been multiple infractions and we always try to give a bit of leeway but it’s just run its course.”

Was there ever a better time to bring in Garner? 4th with no chance of going down & crowds weren't there for half the time to show their feelings. Imagine if we were midtable and brought in Garner, we'd have been relegated last season without a doubt. I'd bite your hand off for Barton tbh. Doubr he'd come here though

He should have got an experienced manager in from day 1. And then changed the team over the next 2,3,4 years not all at once. After all its evolution rather than revolution is it not?

I don't know why people find it so hard to accept that Coughlan left for the reasons he gave, which were that he wanted to be close to his family.

I don't know why people find it so hard to accept that Coughlan left for the reasons he gave, which were that he wanted to be close to his family. Because he also suggested he does not know how far he could take the club without investment and he has "a decision to make". "I don't know where I can take this football club. I'm going to spend this evening with my wife and kids and see which way I wake up in the morning." "How far can we go with the club? How far can we take it? I don't know, I'm emotional at the minute. I'd like to get away from Portman Road this evening and have some time with my wife and kids," he added. "The opportunity and change is there for the football club to push on. Let's see where it goes and see what happens. "Look at that fanbase. Look at the players we've got. This is a massive club. This club could potentially be a championship club. That's the frustrating part." www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-rovers-manager-graham-coughlan-3644915

For instance when he says lets see where it goes, he was already distancing himself. Then home to the wife and family never to return. Not that it matters we're going through managers like confetti now.

If he was performing on the pitch then the manager would find it easier to overlook the indiscretions. That’s probably why he used the phrase ‘I’d had enough of him’.

Tisdale gone, GC available. WYHHB? I would people moan about his football but we were winning and knocking on the door and the alternatives trying to play beautiful league one football haven’t exactly managed it have they he would get in their faces and turn tremulous boys into men or die trying and he wouldn’t cost much either can’t blame him for wanting to be with family he’s not burnt a bridge with me anyway

Well I would take Joey Barton right now for sure. He can’t do any worse can he? He may give the players a kick up the backside which is what everybody says we are missing. Problem is he surely want a longer contract than one until the end of the season. He will likely get plenty of offers from other league one clubs soon.
