Not really that bizarre was it ? He just squared up to the player after the player went running over to him shouting in his face. Perhaps it was bizarre in the sense that refs don’t normally do that. I wish they would.

Ref charged by the FA with improper conduct Disappointing. I don’t think the refs done anything wrong there.

Ref lives in a small village outside Lincoln,my nephews grandparents live next door, nice bloke apparently, so I'm guessing the little fellas gobbed off inappropriately, lucky he didn't nut him.

It’s always amazed me how players shout “ f**k off” at the referees and assistants on a regular basis and that’s not even considered dissent by many. I saw something a while back where a professional lip reader said that Rooney had said the F word 26 times to a referee in one game.
If they made it law you can’t swear at a ref if you do it’s a card - twice your off football would improve.
Where else can you use language and aggression like that and get away with it.
Fair play to this Ref I say.

Whatever happened to 'foul or abusive language', players used to get carded for that.... Strangely I don't remember seeing it on the TV recently.... Does it still exist or has either been dropped or become unimplementable for whatever reason....
Note: checkout gregsy with the 6 syllable word....

Fair play to this Ref I say. Dissent by word or action is a yellow card offence. Offensive, insulting or abusive language is a red card offence. It's all there for them to use, they just don't. You can't have someone in charge of the game with all that authority also pitching in with the aggressive behaviour. It's like 'police brutality,' choose one or the other.

Fair play to him I say, nothing says ‘stamping authority’ than threatening to knock a player out cold.
Should refs be allowed to throw punches?

Fair play to him I say, nothing says ‘stamping authority’ than threatening to knock a player out cold. Should refs be allowed to throw punches? I know that's a joke, but I think it's worth saying that refs generally (and I mean all the way down the pyramid) are protected from the players by their position above this sort of thing. If it is even slightly ok for the ref to engage in the sort of posturing and intimidation that is common enough on the pitch, then suddenly it becomes ok to square back up to them, or to try to intimidate them. They obviously have a different set of tools for dealing with this.

Is the 'foul & abusive' language only really applicable if it is aimed at the ref? 'That is a **** decision' OK 'You are a ****' Foul & abusive
Is our qualified ref poster about for his thoughts?
If Pierluigi Collina had done that to Judge a bit of wee would have come out.
Back in the last century ref David Elleray was mic'd for a game. Can remember him replying to a bit of crap from Tony Adams with 'I may be blind but I'm not a cheat'

Certainly risking a season ban.

I feel sorry for the ref, yes he shouldn't have reacted to the dissent by the player but Lambert demanding an investigation against him is a fecking insult. He should be charged with failing to control his players, as opposed to the Referee being removed from fixtures.
A good example of rugby dissent laws is the recent banning of Kyle Sinckler for two games for swearing at the referee, it would have been more but the RFU took into account his apology.

Not a massive fan of rugby but at least the players respect the ref ! Pompey tonight playing for free kicks and getting in the refs ear at every opportunity this needs to be stamped out in football as it allows teams to kill momentum in games And yet, I've always heard "Football is played by gentlemen, watched by hooligans. Rugby is played by hooligans, watched by gentlemen"
