I wouldn’t square up to that ref. Size of him! In all seriousness, it does look as though he lost control for a moment, but probably regained his composure in time to prevent getting in very hot water. The abuse these guys get every week is disgusting though. I’d like to hear what Judge said to make him react in that way.

Not a massive fan of rugby but at least the players respect the ref ! Pompey tonight playing for free kicks and getting in the refs ear at every opportunity this needs to be stamped out in football as it allows teams to kill momentum in games

The players deserve a bit back, the refs should have camera and mic like they do in rugby, too often you see players surround and intimidate the refs. Fair play to him.

First thoughts is that referee should not be getting drawn into it. They should be setting examples to players and keeping their cool.
However on reflection they’re only human too and he must have done or said something pretty provocative to evoke a response like that.
Let’s have him down the Mem.
Time divers and cheaters had a rocket up their asses.
Let’s stamp all the gamesmanship out as well. Like when the players kick the ball away, stand over the ball and stop the fouled team taking their free kick. Seems to me the referees play along with this.

It’s fine with cheating

Unfortunately this ref has now demonstrated he has a flashpoint, and whilst it would be silly for players to provoke him, there are plenty of clubs with masses of employees manning the touch line who will consider him fair game if things are going against them...think of Steve Evans and his crew.

Alan Judge is one of the most petulent players in the league. He like a jack Russell, all mouth but no trousers, always having a nibble, dives (alot, so I can understand why the ref didnt give it) and also hes a mouthy little twerp.
The ref was already surrounded by 5 players and he came running in shouting his mouth off. Now i didnt see the preceeding 70 mins to know if Judge had been true to form, but the ref gave him the "if you speak to me like that again boy ill take your head off" look. Its also exascerbated by the fact that Judge is about 5ft 8 and the ref is 6'2 so hes looking down at him rather than at him.
Those who remember Pierlugi Collina will remember him getting in front of players with his presence, bulging eyes and stern looks. If more refs were like it, we wouldnt see the diving, play acting and nonsense that some refs allow. The ref is boss, what he says goes so respect needs to be shown.

Does he play cricket as well then?

The standing over the ball to stop a free kick being taken really gets me and the refs do nothing. We do it, everyone does it so it’s not like we’re innocent but stopping it would improve the game. Wycombe used to be masters at it and over the years down here in AFCBournemouth I saw Stoke become masters of it as well. Now, everyone does it and have learnt from some of those teams. Blimey, Wycombe used to start time wasting from the whistle and they turned it into an art form, time wasting, little fouls, pleading with the refs. In a way it’s all been allowed and now they don’t really know how to stop it. Refs never seem to give yellow cards and tbh I’m not even sure some of these things are allowed to be yellow cards. Refs being miked up could be helpful. UTG!

What I don't get, is that they stamped down on kicking the ball away a few years ago and made it an automatic yellow card, and it virtually disappeared for a few seasons, but they've let it creep back in and now don't do anything about it. It can be done.

Football is a game that talks a lot about respect but actually does little when it comes to officials. From the top - remember Ferguson at Man Utd telling his players to get in officials' faces, which Roy Keane did in a totally obnoxious way - right down to the lowest Sunday League, referees and assistants get constant abuse. While the authorities do nothing it will continue. I actually have no idea why most officials put themselves through it each week.
My son plays rugby and the officials (even if they are sometimes useless!) get respect and run the game. I remember in one game the referee was 17 and it was only his first season in adult rugby. He talked to the players throughout the game explaining his decisions. One spectator was moaning about the game going on too long and in a break in play the referee explained he was in charge of the watch and the spectator apologised! I'm not saying one game is better than the other but it is about time this was sorted out.

I'm not saying one game is better than the other but it is about time this was sorted out. I sound like a boring old fart on this but Rugby seems to have certain standards and some lines that players cross at their peril, words are met by actions. In football there are few standards and those that were there seem to have been eroded away I suspect by people like Ferguson who saw only “my team” and not the good of the game. The FA, EFL seem to have been paralysed by the power of the clubs and now PL. No one has had the strength to stand up and say enough, this is not the way to act. If referees punished disrespect and kept to it and players missed games through yellow cards I’m sure it could change in a season. Bht it won’t happen, unfortunately. UTG!

I don't see what the Ref did wrong.
He just stood up to a little sh** mouthing off.
As someone said, I wish we had more refs like that bald Italian Ref with blue eyes from back in the day.It would be a better game.

Where to begin? Wrestling at corners... - ... - WHY is that allowed? Send off enough every match and it will stop pretty pronto.

Would have to introduce to youngsters in the first instance so they go through the years with it as part of the rules. Wouldn't just be able to apply to the current game as everyone would get sent off. Either that or start giving yellows for ungentlemanly conduct as they don't seem to be dished out anymore. They should release the transcript of why the player was booked. "Yellow issued for being an annoying little......"
