“You can’t escape the facts,” he continued. “You’ve seen the managers that have gone before here and you would presume that they do everything right, and it’s only when you get in here and you see it. “I could show you the footage of the training sessions. They’re a farce... “All I’ve got to go off is all the recorded training sessions, because everyone videos training now. Two-and-a-half-hour sessions on a Friday, what chance of the lads got?" Goes some way to explaining why we've got the worst late goals conceded stats in League One. Ok, but this seems like a pretty simple fix, don’t have intense sessions the day before a matchday. Yet we’re still conceding late goals, as referenced by the Wigan game and the Swindon game recently. Doesn’t sound particularly negligent either, just a difference of opinion on how coaching should be run before a matchday. Would be interested to watch the clips though. Who does a 2 and a half hour session the day before a game? Jeez. Yes I'd call that negligent. Wigan and Swindon games individual errors again. Stupid naive freekick given away and defenders failing to track runners and a weak midfielder twice failing to make a tackle because he was afraid of getting dirty or breaking a nail or something .

I wouldn’t take anything Joey says too literally. Anyone who has coached someone or managed someone before in a different kind of professional way has probably told a white lie or made an example of someone before. Perhaps not humiliated their colleague, but perhaps not roasted them for their poor performance when they know that maybe that person has been let down in some way by someone else, for instance being put in a situation out of their depth or being not given the training they need.
For all we know, Max could have even agreed to what was being said in a way to try and shock the players into action. He could have had a quiet word with him and told him his intentions, and got his blessing before saying what he said. Probably not, given how brutal it was.
Who knows.
I do also think that he’s trying to chuck a few statements here or there to see what sticks and motivates the lads.

I mean if there was such a big problem with the coaching practices, surely Joey has had enough time to turn them around given he’s been in the job for a fair while now? Also with Tisdale’s years of experience and success of as a professional manager, find it hard to believe that his coaching was negligent, Garner I can believe. Would like to hear less of these damning sound bites and see more action from Barton now, he’s got his point across. Yes, He’s deflecting and projecting and it’s getting tedious. What I truly dislike is that we have nine games to go, it’s not over but, for him, it is. This is the perfect time for battling talks and motivational speech and not this blaming of others. This , coupled with publicly slating people, is a nasty thing and not necessary. Never give up, certainly with nine games to go. I’m stunned

I’m stunned We do seem to do better against the bigger clubs, or at least the so-called in form clubs - Portsmouth, Accrington, Shrewsbury, all of which we were odds on to lose. Let's hope this happens in the next 3 games, doubtful but not impossible! JB is saying more or less what the fans have been saying for months now and between the lines he was stating the players are up for the fight - I didn't feel he has accepted relegation already. Appreciate he's not everyone's cup of tea but he's all we have for now, so I'll keep supporting and hoping. Actually, even if we do go down I'll still renew my season ticket and keep following the only team in Bristol I've ever been interested in!

Pseudo intellectual, even had the heavy rimmed glasses on again today. Haven't seen them on since the first day he arrived, why doesn't he engage his brain and ask himself which guy appointed the most uninspiring bag of cement manager Ben Garner in the clubs history. Hasselbaink turned things around at Burton Albion in less games than Barton has had, all of this from a guy who could be in HMP Wakefield from June 11th, at least he can moan about the screws when there and suggest they get fitter. The club can do no right in your eyes can they Knowall?

Joey sure is keen to absolve himself of any and all responsibility for a man who:
1) Took over a team outside the relegation zone. 2) Will have managed 40% of our L1 matches this season by the end of the campaign. 3) Had very winnable games against Wigan, Burton, Wimbledon & Swindon on the horizon.
Not saying he’ll be the main man to blame if we go down, or that I’d get rid of him if we go down. But I’m finding all this talk of us having to “climb Everest” in order to stay up wearing.
Because it’s true now, but it wasn’t true when he took over. It’s Everest now because we’ve taken 7 points from 30 under him so far, and lost to pretty much all our nearest rivals in the process.

Stupid naive freekick given away and defenders failing to track runners and a weak midfielder twice failing to make a tackle because he was afraid of getting dirty or breaking a nail or something . But when do you do it? If you've got a game Saturday and Tuesday, every week - when do you do the intense training sessions? You can't do Sunday because they played the day before, so you have to do Monday - but that's 24 hours before a game. Then after Tuesday's game, you can't do Wednesday because it's the day after a match, so that literally leaves you the Thursday, otherwise you'd be doing it on the Friday which is again 24 hours before. If the players are THAT bad because of Garner's mess Tisdale had little choice but to try and get some work in somewhere. What are their points records like in comparison? It can't be that much worse than Barton's and yet Barton's had a number of incredibly easy games - all of which he's lost! So if Tisdale is THAT bad, what does it say about Barton exactly? I just think it's very, very unprofessional (shock, horror!!) slating anyone so publicly. If Barton was winning games left, right and centre fair enough - but what exactly have you done Barton? A few wins and you've lost all the games to the teams around us. Shambles. Just keep your head down, work with the players and get some f**king points on the board. We're not stupid - we know the other managers were sh*te - funny enough that's why they're not employed by us any more! For those saying Barton is intelligent - I don't get that at all. The man is a walking, talking book of clichés. Then again, he can only play the hand he's been dealt, and he's big enough and ugly enough to dust himself down I'm sure. Just focus on winning games please Joey - you've said what you need to say, there's no need for any more.

You're not comparing like for like though are you? Hasselbaink had a transfer window where Burton signed 9 new players.

Again a message that could have been delivered in front of the squad and in private. It has been said Ehmer has been carrying an injury and he is out for the season legitimately or not. just make the public attack look vindictive and pointless That's a fair point What I was getting at is that we have posters hammering JB for criticizing the players in public when Ehmer apart he hasn't. It's perfectly valid that these things could/should have been done behind closed doors but that's a different argument I see a manager who is talking more about the past than planning to fight relegation. This, like any forum, would normally be more filled with team talk than a single individual. A bit of humility wouldn’t go amiss.

I don't understand why many don't seem to see this - all of these outbursts are just a sub-conscious acceptance that we're down. He knows it. The time and place for this if it really must be public is after the full-time whistle at the end of match 46. The very least I expected from JB was motivation - I've yet to see anything whatsoever to suggest he could motivate a carrot. Even results back it up - p*ss poor against Swindon and Wigan; two games we had to win.

I think he is trying to protect his players by throwing up a smokescreen. While everyone wants to have a pop at him, no one is slagging off the players.

This thread would seem not to back you up there. How many threads slating players are there on front page of Gaschat this week? Look back on games against Fleetwood. How many were about their players or formation etc? Barton is very good at carrying the flack and deflecting the focus. I think he knows exactly what he is doing.

From here that looks like a bizarre statement - where is the evidence of that? The evidence points to the complete opposite - since the moment he's walked through the door he has taken every single opportunity to tell all and sundry via national media outlets that it is everyone else's fault. I'm not stating what he's saying is incorrect. I'm saying that shouting it from the rooftops is incredibly unprofessional and it's growing tiresome - this is about the third time in as many press interviews now. He was bought in to keep us up and win games. He's failing miserably. Worse than anyone could ever have predicted. And he knows it.

It's not his job to say what supporters are thinking. It's his job to get us some wins, and so far he's been sh** at it. You’re right he’s not paid to say what we’re thinking. He’s actually basically putting in his excuses before we get relegated. I’m not going to hold it against him, he’s got a point, the players bought in the summer would make a great under 23 squad. Not so much a team to fight relegation or promotion. The experienced players bought in to play alongside them have been a gross disappointment. Nicholson aside. He's 100 % right and I have no problem with him being open about it ,I will judge him when he fields his own team next season albeit in league 2 I'm afraid.

We do seem to have been very unlucky since Barton took over.
Dominated against Wigan only to lose with the last kick of the game. Dominant at Burton until McCormick's sending off. Matching Hull until Leahy's mistake, also think we were down to 10 at the time with Grant off injuted but I could be wrong. Dominant against Wimbledon until Rodman's injury. Dominant against Charlton and playing superbly until conceding with their first shot on goal. On top in a tight relegation battle with Swindon until our goal was wrongly ruled out.
Key experienced players injured or unavailable Jaakkola, Rodman, Davies, Ogogo and Nicholson.
