Thought Alfie had a good game on Saturday and kept Charlie Wyke quiet. Appreciate he has had a mixed season but has helped stop both Wyke and JCH scoring against us in 4 games. There is undoubtedly a good player there. Always does well in a physical battle with the Wyke types, but lack of pace is often shown up against the more mobile strikers. Baresi didn’t have loads of pace.

Absolutely I don't recall many people complaining when he was offered a new long term contract. He's still young, more than capable of becoming championship player All of these young players have potential. They need a settled management team and coaching approach as well as confidence. How many of them are now sh** scared of putting a foot wrong for fear of being the next scapegoat plastered all over social media by JB? Barton has brought both Walker & Martinez into the squad and had confidence enough to play them, granted we're short with injuries but he could easily have played other players. The only player he's called out in public is Ehmer.

Yes he did but what does that have to do with JB playing them now ? You're saying they'll be scared of being called out in public, I doubt that now they are in the first team rather than the development squad

I said some time ago how disappointing Ehmer had been but said at the time he was so disappointing that he may be carrying an injury. He obviously was injured and was trying to play through it. I wonder if JB would have called him out had he known about the injury. If he knew and still called him out then that seems unfair. UTG!

You're a Garner fan how many times did he complain about referees decidions?

Kilgore had a good season alongside Tony Craig
He’s shown a few errors this season but show me which player hasn’t
The fact he’s playing every week while a mixed cast revolve around him tells me he’s the best thought of CB we have and not having settled reliable partner is obvs going to make him skittish
He’s v young he’s got a lot of L1 experience and he scored that goal last season
Why the hell would a scout not take a good look ?

I heard Mick Harford was also there on Saturday and he is recruiting for Luton Town, exactly the type of club who would pick any cream of the crap from a relegated side.
Also understand Pablo was the one attracting the scouts.

We have been a good hunting ground for QPR in the past, Ollie, Dennis, Penny and Bruno spring to mind

Lack of pace at centre back has been a massive problem in general. Baldwin is also really slow over any kind of distance. He and Kilgour have been comfortably our best two defenders but if you add lack of pace to error-prone unfortunately you get calamity.

From the Bristol Post Under the previous regime you were out on loan and then came back but still remained in the development squad. It’s taken Joey next to no time to bring you up, what impact has he had on your game? The meetings we have with him and the way he speaks, his energy is inspiring. Every time I go out to train we usually have a meeting before an I always feel motivated to go and work my hardest. He’s been really influential for me definitely.

Your man Garner didn't play him though, did he? Fortunately Martinez is "inspired" by the current manager, which is good to hear.

The previous regime was Tisdale. Your man Garner didn't play him though, did he? Fortunately Martinez is "inspired" by the current manager, which is good to hear. No he signed him and sent him out on loan. It’s good practise to get these young guys some minutes in men’s football, then bring them back and give them trophy games, then on the bench and then into the team. It’s an integration process designed to develop the young players correctly over time. Look at the trophy starting 11s and squads under garner v Widdrington and Tisdale. Even when Garner was under pressure for wins he stuck to his principles and didn’t use the trophy games to make himself look good. Don’t be a hater pirate. I’m not suggesting Martinez doesn’t like Barton or Barton hasn’t done a good thing playing him and Walker but to use everything as black and white, right or wrong is very basic. Mehew, Walker and Phillips got decent game time under Garner in the trophy. Look at the line ups in the two trophy games after garner left. You have a good knowledge of up and coming young players pirate, you are better than this.

The inclusion of Walker and Martinez (which I liked) followed by this "scouts were in attendance" makes my mind wander, thinking, was it Joeys decision... or was he told to play said players as we might be able to sell in the summer and use funds to support the big reset.
I'm sure no one really tells JB what to do, but if there is a financial benefit for him that also aligns to the team possibly performance better or at least the same then its a no brainer.
For Martinez's performance (baring in mind he has been playing as a centre back and was utilised as a DM) was pretty decent if you ask me. Eye test and stats wise I though he didn't look out of place against McGeedy (value 650k) Gooch (Value 550k) and Scowen (Value 720k)
5.5% Possession 60% Pass rate 4 Aerials won (50%) 5 Tackles (63%) 5 Clearances 2 Interceptions

Not bad for your league debut against one of the top league one teams. More than happy to see him in there again alongside Grant as the holding mids.
