Alarm bells sounded on this fella as soon as he quickly signed his son to a two year deal.
The same aforementioned Theo last seen turning out for some seconds in the John West Tuna Cup.

He is an employee as well as a Director, and can be removed from both positions. He isn't actually registered as a company director at Companies House. Of course he’s not he’s not been issued shares, he’s an employee with the title of director theres millions of directors in this country that aren’t shareholders on the board he can get fcked out and JB knows it and has pretty much said it

There are many types of directorships.
Shareholding directors who carry the responsibility for the finances and total performances of the company. Effect, the owners.
Executive directors who hold positions of governance on the board who get to vote motions to which are recommend to the owners. They are also the ones responsible for the structure and framework of the company.
Non-executive directors who sit in on board meetings but hold positions in an advisory capacity, for example law, finance or real estate.
Managing Directors who hold responsibility for a department(s) that may be involved in overseeing the management structure, ensuring operational procedures are followed and the day to day running is effective. They will be invited to board meetings where their input is required.
A person may hold one or more positions as a director depending on the size, structure or specialty of the company.
A shareholder, executive or non-executive director must be listed and registered on companies house as a person with control. Departmental MDs do not.
TW is a paid department director responsible for football operations. His employment could be terminated in line with employment law or terms set out in his contract.

What a ridiculous statement, IMO made without any reasonable facts to substantiate sacking the man. As I understand it he is Head of the scouting regime with multiple scouts, statisticians, match video editors etc reporting to him. and as stated by Widdrington he has a file on over 1000 players. There is no way on this earth that he has seen all these players. That list including video clips is presented to the manager. I presume as he stated (there was a job advert a few weeks ago) there are scouts all over the country perhaps 10 - 20 even more who look at all levels of the game from under tens up to the Championship. These scouts watch all level of games, react to reports from team managers and players agents etc ( Nicholson was he scouted in USA or by agents contact? I believe there is an FA list of registered players who are out of work and available to all clubs. Widdrington stated the list only contained players within Rovers reasonable financial constraints. I think a reasonable guess is that many are in the lower age group with a view to the future with released premier/championship league players under 18/21/23 high on the list. How many are first team calibre would be the minority I would say. If the list contained 40 players in each position that's 440 players for a manager to choose from. It then fall on the manager to choose a player from the list accepting the financial constraints put on him by the CEO. IMO it was Garner, lead and supported perhaps by Wael, who fell into the trap of moving too quick into the Peterborough model of buy cheap and sell high! Is that not what Barton has said in his latest interview Up the Widdy Not an executive director (thank F##k) though he might of been better at his job if it was his own money. Mr 100% is un defendable, just like the back line he’s sanctioned to be signed. 5 left backs, 3 strikers (Hanlon was a winger..... remember, so 2 strikers). The best team since promotion....... didn’t fancy proving it to secure survival, did he. My son kept telling me about our signings in the summer, to each time I asked what position? Great, let me know when we sign a striker. Jan window, still no striker.

Widdrington works 3 transfer windows ahead. He is currently preparing us for 2nd half of the 2022/23 season. 3 windows ahead, a team of scouts working for him, yet couldnt find a decent striker when we needed one the most... 3 windows ahead most likely means he is tracking the progress of young players (17 year olds) and players at a lower league level. To see how they develop over that 1-3 year period. Its not, already planning to buy a certain player in 3 years time.

TW is neither. That aside I expect he is more than comfortable not having the legal responsibilities that a directorship carries.

Is that not what Barton has said in his latest interview Up the Widdy Spot on. It’s hard to say who is to blame, without knowing who did what. DC spoke about the process, when he was here. The manager tells him what attributes he wants etc, he goes away and looks at player’s and creates lists and then gives that to the manager. Who will look at the player’s and make the final decisions. Because of his title. A lot of people, think Widdrington picked the player’s and decided evening my everything himself. That’s not the case. Garner spoke about the player’s when that signed, said he was aware of them for years and they impressed him etc. Plus the proof is in the type of player’s we signed. If Widdrington was picking them, we would have signed the same type of player’s under all managers. Yet under Coughlan were signed the Ogogo, JCH type and under Garner were signed young midfielder, who were lightweight and a lot of left backs. For all we know, Widdrington could have recommended decent player’s, who Garner didn’t want, as they didn’t suit he’s philosophy.

I agree with what you say Daniel but Widdrington was still has to take some of the blame as he is still implicated in the signing of these players, be could have told Garner that some of the players weren't good enough and advised Garner not to sign them.

Anyone who calls for Tommy's sacking really doesn't understand what his role at the club is. Firstly he's on the board, so technically isn't an employee who can be 'sacked'. Secondly, he doesn't decide who we sign. The manager tells him what kind of player he needs, and from his database, he suggests targets who meet the criteria. How anyone can blame him for our current predicament is beyond me. The buck must stop with the manager who's told him what kind of player he needs. In my opinion, BG got that completely wrong for a league one campaign, the balance of the squad was all wrong, and once Nicholson got injured we lost what cutting edge we had up front, which was already woeful following JCH's departure. Signing replacement forwards has always been out Achilles heel, I don't know why. So TW will be here until he decides to go, and I for one believe he adds a lot to the running of the club. So if I go to the head of recruitment and ask for a centre back, aged under 30, league 1 experience, leadership experience, strong in the air and able to pass the ball out of defence and they come back with Max Ehmer who takes the blame? The manager isn’t blameless as he has final sign off but if you can’t trust the head of recruitment who has spent hours watching these players and researching them personally, what’s the point in having them? It beggars belief people still can’t see how things work. Widdrington’s main remit was recruiting players and Garners was coaching and developing them and picking the team / tactics. Anyone that thinks Widdrington was just a Head scout needs to ask why his title was changed from head of recruitment to director of football to better reflect the role he was carrying out. Almost all of the players signed you can link back to Widdrington either having formerly worked with the player or having spoken of his admiration of that player at some point. These were Widdrington’s players signed off, naively, by a guy who was content with a role mainly focussed on getting the best out of the ‘hand he was Dealt’ (Geordie Tommy, nov 2020) I think most fans were excited by Ehmer when he was signed, but for whatever reason, it hasn't worked out. As far as the Coventry connection is concerned, you wouldn't criticise him for signing JCH or Davies. I think that argument doesn't stand up.

It's also down to contacts and understanding of each other, people will 'trust' those they have had dealings with before. It's a confidence thing. I've seen plenty of new CEOs come and go in my work, they tended to bring in their own board members and Heads of.. who then often departed around the same time the CEO moved on again. Didn't DC sign a few players with Salisbury connections? Widdrington was with DC at Salisbury too before he was brought in. One of Francis' first signings for QPR were Holloway, Dennis Bailey and Devon White iirc. Later on we needed players and signed three QPR players in return later, terrace rumour at the time was that Tilson was recommended by Francis. It's who you know, less of a gamble if the parties involved know each other at least in a small way.

For me it's not about the individual players and their merits. Even those that have failed to live up to expectations, could have looked much better if they were part of a more balanced squad. The big issue was the balance of the squad with regards to positions, experience and character. Not enough strikers, too many midfielders, too many with "potential" but not enough "been there, done it", and not enough leaders.

I know that, my dad is a scout himself in the states, was said more in jest than anything. It's a shame that (apart from the odd exception) he cant find many players that can come in and have a positive impact on the first team straight away

Like most on the forum I don't know TW and don't know how to apportion the blame for the poor recruitment between him and the managers - Garner and Tisdale. That's said he should have know the weaknesses in the squad and have a back-up plan in case Stockley did not sign in January.
One thing for sure you can't keep both Barton and TW happy. One of them has to go to have some unity in the club.
My guess is Wael will sit tight until mid June and the trial is out the way and we won't see much in way of player recruitment till then. Last thing we want is Joey recruiting players then being sent down and yet another manager trying to get the best out of squad he did not recruit.

But how can you blame the HoR for that, surely it's the manager's job to get the right blend? TW quite clearly said in one interview he was concerned we didn't have sufficient strikers but BG was adamant that he only wanted the 3 strikers, as he only intended ever playing one striker upfront. TW could hardly tell that was nonsense and he intended signing another striker anyway. JB's agenda is to clearly get his mate, Eddy Jennings employed as DoF I doubt whether TW's any good at recruitment is immaterial given JB's intentions. It'll be interesting to see who Wael backs, but like the other poster suggests you can't see anything happening until after June's court case, if JB is convicted lets just hope the judge doesn't reserve judgment for a month in order to order psych. reports etc or it could be late July before we can start rebuilding for L2.
