With the benefit of hindsight many would disagree but in their first season at the club, who rated;
Right back Hinton, winger Campbell or midfield Lescott.
The players signed by Garner were meant to have potential. Who knows how a teenager would cope moving to a new city, with no friends and all they do is work and come home to their flats to see the same 4 walls. Who knows if their Mums were suffering with Covid or if any of their relations died?
Some posters have said about mental health pressures, while others say we should get rid of all the squad.
The club needs some stability to stop the rot.
Many of the squad are still young and who knows maybe this season will be the kick up the backside they need to progress their careers.
I would guess that quite a few of the players written off on here may well improve either with us, or no doubt play well against us in the future.

That’s because patience in football means waiting until half time until deciding how the future of the club is going. Employing Garner in the structure of the club was wrong but having gone down that route it could well have been wrong to sack him. At that point we change direction and the plan is ripped up. That’s a recipe for financial ruin in any business let alone football

I really liked a curly haired defender called Matty Lockwood an rated him highly, cracking wee lad who got forward an chipped in with a few goals.
We let him go an he went on ta be a consistent professional at Orient I believe, made a few PFA teams of th year too. Just one I was baffled why we let go.

But on the flipside wouldn't that be the same for every club in our division this season with new signings? Again it goes to due diligence on signings and them not being to gel as a team not matter how good they may be individually .

Interesting that the three players you mention improved once played in a different position: Hinton RB - CB, Campbell winger - CM, Lescott midfield - RB. Perhaps we should try Hanlan in defence and Westbrooke in goal!

Failure probably isn't the right word, but I don't think Rickie set the world alight in his first season

Yes, I’ve said elsewhere some good players in this squad but the balance hasn’t been there. They recruited defenders, midfielders then stopped. Had they got in strikers perhaps our midfield and defence wouldn’t have been under pressure so much. A pre season under JB and a few additions and I’d be optimistic. UTG!

Thinking about it, wasn't Luke Mc meant to be rubbish at Shrews and several asked why would we want a weak player like him.
Twelve months after and with a bit of conditoning and a decent pre season and he is now a cert to be a championship player!

Decent after he left us though by all accounts with apparently Spurs interested. One particular game that stood out was away at Carlisle in 1998 where Nick Wright ran rings around him...

An Ollie blunder, anyone could see he was going to be a good left back...was it something to do with not offering him a pay-rise so he went to Orient. Odd as it was Ollie who brought him to the club.

Typical Rovers fans, always looking backwards. You cannot say Rickie had a bad season, then look at him. Doubt if he chewed tobacco, and I suspect he wanted to succeed. If you want another one we let go too early then it's Joe Jacobson

The only teenagers we signed were Martinez and Ryan Jones, one turned 20 in October and the other plays/played for Weston?
