First post so be nice.... In August I will have been going to my beloved Port Vale for 50 years but since 1990 my 'one to watch' has been Rovers. I hung out with a Rovers fan while on holiday in Rhodes, and with the John Rudge connection I have always checked on your results as well as standing or sitting with you lot when you are up in this neck of the woods although not watched you since Macclesfield town with that early kick off standing behind the goal when you were in the conference. I dont suppose welcoming you to league 2 is much comfort but I just wanted to say a couple of things. From an outsider the jury no doubt is out on JB he is one of those managers fans love to hate until he manages your team, obviously DC here seems to be bedding in nicely (he mentioned you fans again on YouTube yesterday, clearly still loves you guys) but as I said earlier the last person in a management sense we had with a Rovers connection was John Rudge and we all know how he did. !! Our season ticket prices are £295 (early bird) with 1600 sold last weekend on our open day and would imagine us and yourselves will be in the top 5 for attendances throughout the season. League positions? Let's settle for one and two. Genuinely hope you bounce back and look forward to banter leading up to our matches. Steve.

Good luck to the Valiants next season, I always had a soft spot for Vale going back to the 80's. Been to Vale Park a few times, friendly locals and a great little stadium

I was at Vale Park when we lost the play off final. I was devastated for weeks! I always remember Robbie Earle as being a player I always wished was in our side, thought he was a great player. So my memories are feeling miserable on a cloudy day!! I feel there are synergies with Port Vale and Rovers in that there is great potential with ‘bigger’ noisy neighbours. Hopefully we’ll both have our day over them!!

I’ve been to Vale once, which was the first game of the season after being relegated to league 2... wasn’t the nicest greeting from the home fans. Might go again next season tho

I was there too, disappointed but from memory Vale were 10 points clear in third place and we never beat them that season in any of the 4 games we played them. Led to a great season afterwards and would definitely have taken that.

Those days at Twerton against City and up at Blackpool will live long in the memory!!

Edit: That was the result, 2-2 at home in the league, 1-1 in the play off and two 1-0 defeats at Port Vale.

Great Oatcakes at Burslem which don't exist outside Staffordshire sadly.Carol Shanahan is a superb owner and speaks well regularly on Radio Stoke. There was some aggro last time at your place for two reasons.Inexplicably, your club put netting over 50% of the away end and we get a LOT of fans. Also as an ex Staffordshire Cop I was interviewed as to my thoughts on the aggro but in addition to the stupid netting, several stewards were non English speaking. Like us Vale are in the shadow of a larger club but I lived in Eccleshall when Vale were in a higher Division than Stoke for one season. Cheapest beer ever in a back street pub across the park.Very big pitch and will be good to see DC back at our place. Radio Stoke commentators not too impressed with our ground describing one stand as like a cricket pavilion.( They weren't wrong!!!) Chris Lines enjoyed his time in the Potteries and John Rudge always keen to talk about the Gas.Incidently he will be 77 in October. Sadly young man ,you are already three down today at home to Mansfield.

Good luck to the Valiants next season, I always had a soft spot for Vale going back to the 80's. Been to Vale Park a few times, friendly locals and a great little stadium I've been to Vale quite a few times since that game in 1974 in our promotion season. Good stadium -- But I would'nt call their fans friendly at all. Every time I've been there have always had some bother. Mind you Rovers fans there are no angels.

Good interesting post !(could do with a few more)! and glad to see it has been received in the right spirit! Lovely chap is Mr Rudge, and copied my hair style! After having the expectations of this season unceremoniously shattered to smithereens i look forward to next season more in hope than expectation but fully expect DC to take Vale into at least a play off spot, will be assured of huge reception on his return but he is yours now and we have to move on with JB, all the best.

Maybe Mansfield is his personal bogey team?

Maybe Mansfield is his personal bogey team? That would be ironic as he made over 150 appearances for them as a player....

Vale Park originally had the same ground plan as Wembley, indeed when it was being built it was going to be the Wembley of the North. Another interesting fact is that in Roman times the climate was such that they grew grapes in the Stoke area

Everyone seemed to have a problem when I was there lol but I just realised it wasn’t after relegation, it was the first game after trollopes promotion I was there. 1-1
