Typical brainless response from somebody who doesn't understand football. The majority of goals conceded this season have come from players strolling down our left side unimpeded. FACT!
jerrytheberry So what are your credntials for your brainless reply? Ive played over 1200 games at reasonable local level and watched Rovers for over 55 years and I dont understand football. The fact is just as many goals have come down the right but as you no doubt know playing wingbacks the opposing team are going to get space out wide but that aside most of the goals conceded have been gift wrapped by Kilgour,Ehmer and Baldwin.FACT
thegasareback deserves to be respected with your reply. The problem is that very few players have played well enough to have regularly deserved a place in the team or cemented their place. When you can't score goals and you regularly give the opposition a Christmas present then you get only one thing-relegation. I think a lot of these players would be ok in a different team or even next season with a new spine of players but together they are a disaster.

Totally unnecessary pal. We’re all Gasheads here. Glad you didn’t write FACT after that statement...we have quite a few guests from other teams amongst our forum membership, mind you a lot of those support L1 teams so they won’t be visiting or posting for a while!

The whole defense as a collective unit hasn't been good. The whole team as a collective unit hasn't been good enough!!! FACT hunt.

These players are dreadful. Joey is spot on and I think it’s refreshing that he is telling the truth. Next season, he will have no hiding place.

Do u honestly think any manager would get a tune out of this useless squad Garner lost 3 of his last 10 games as manager. Barton has lost 8 of the last 10 games with essentially the same squad. I think I can spot who was more effective.

Do u honestly think any manager would get a tune out of this useless squad Or take responsibility for the mess, he's angry because the team won't perform, I'm not sure why people expect him to lie and say they're great if they aren't. Good man management is about honesty not bigging up under performers. Good man management is getting the players motivated to perform well. Barton failed.

I was very much pro-Joey before his appointment. None of this predecessors took us into the relegation zone and I’m convinced we had good enough players to stay up. Some recent statements “Some of these players wouldn’t get in a school side” “Alleged strikers” “Worst team I’ve ever been involved with” Etc etc. To me there’s certain ways you go about doing things and ostracising individuals and being plain rude shows a complete lack of class. I don’t mind calling a spade a spade but I feel he’s pointing fingers at previous managers and current players when in truth he’s been the worst performing manager we’ve had in my lifetime that I can remember. I’ve renewed my season ticket and til be there in august but jury now well and truly out. UTG have a good summer folks. I love honestly and Joey is just saying it as it is but some if the things he says does cross the line, should they be said? Maybe not, but it's the truth and maybe that's what's needed right now at this club. JB gets a summer to rebuild and then has no one else to blame but himself as he pretty much said in his post match interview today. I've said this before and I'll say it again. I find it amazing how many people love the whole "Saying it as it is" thing, when it's actually completely inappropriate and detrimental for a manager of a football club (or any organisation come to think of it) to publicly "say it how it is". To a certain degree it is OK, but JB goes way over the mark. In fact the whole "say it how it is" thing is often worn like a badge of honour by dickheads who think they're clever or insightful, but actually are just arrogant tossers who wouldn't know diplomacy or empathy if it jumped up and bit them on the arse. There's a lot that I like about what Joey says, I do think he's a much more intelligent bloke than many in the media and wider world give him credit for, but he oversteps the mark with his comments far too often and I would bet my bottom dollar that it's for reasons like that that our form has fallen off a cliff since the Accrington game. You make your staff feel like worthless pieces of sh**, and what are you going to get? Probably performances to match. It's not rocket science, and he had it right when he first joined, trying to big them up and give them positivity. Why did he suddenly flip and go from positives such as "Hanlan can be a 20 goal a season striker in L1" to calling him an "alleged striker" just a few weeks later? Is it true? I personally think Hanlan is abysmal, so I believe it is true, but that's alright coming from me. Coming from the manager it is not something to crow about, it's bad management. End of.

Well he failed with that statement so we are supposed to believe everything else he now says? We were outside relegation when he came in therefore he took us down. You can blame everyone else at the club and who was at he club but ultimately he took us down. People were saying how terrible Tom Nicholls was, look at his goals and assist totals for this season no doubt there will be those who say "he's at his level". We have talented players, we don't have a team.

Anyone reckon that the teds coffin "banter" should be collected and taken to somewhere back stage at the Mem to remind current and future players just what happens when pride and passion evaporates on the pitch. Could it be used to inspire - or this just messy nonsense? Just got me thinking, some of the things that Joey has had the lads do to attempt to change the mindset etc... Having a rival rinse you in the manner they have with the coffin could be used as fuel.
Any thoughts?

Yetigas, Can I ask you what your opinion was when Garner was sacked with his 3 wins out of 10? Did you agree or disagree with the clubs decision to sack him? Hindsight is a great thing to have in your locker. The trouble is nobody has it!! I remember many were calling for DCs head after about 10 games in the Conference season. It would have been easy for Wael to sack him then. He didnt and the rest is history. A season depends on many things and a successful one is getting many things going right. It is easy after to look back and say that wonderful word IF. For me the final nail in the coffin was when Nicholsons season was over. He was the last shining light. Had he stayed fit i think Joey would have kept us up-just.If McCormick hadn't been sent off at Burton when we were controlling the game we probably would have won. The disallowed good goal against Swindon at home. The penalty at Northampton after the push on Baldwin and a throw in taken 5 yards further up the pitch. All pivotal moments that contrived to go against us. All the motivation in the world can't make something you just haven't got.Joey started off by boosting up Hanlan as a 20 goal a season striker- what did that result in ? It didn't take a genius to see what we needed in the January transfer window. Anything in the striker department would have been an improvement on what we had. A tough no nonsence centre half would have improved things.JB wouldnt have known how bad it was when he took over but the reason Tisdale was sacked was because it was on the cards we we`re heading for relegation. It is easy for us to criticise on here- I was suggesting an all out attacking policy and was being told that would result in us losing by a cricket score. In truth i hardly think those tactics could have done any worse but I wasn't making the decisions and neither was anybody else on here. JB now has complete control of the players and he has said what he can do-if he does it then 90% on here will change their views on him because thats what we are in the position to do.If he fails then he will be off and that is fair enough. The players he doesn't want will now be aware of that as will the ones he wants. The out of contract players are not a problem, the ones in contract could be. If his management methods of recently work then we will see contracted players decide to leave. If it has failed then they will stay. Can he bring the right players in? I don't know but I am prepared to give him the chance and at this time I am excited at the prospect. As long as he is our Manager I will support him 100%. only time will tell whether his Management style has been right for the position we were in. Next season is a very important season for us. In many ways it is similar to when we went to the Conference. Had we lost to Grimsby in that play off final we could still have been languishing in the Conference now. If JB fails next season we could be in for a long stint in League 2 and the possibility of going down again. Lets at least get behind the man and increase ours and his chances of success.

thegasareback, Please tell me what players have played well enough to justify your tag of being good enough to keep us up? I struggle to think of many apart from Annsi, Leahy, Nicholson and McCormick and two out of the four have had injuries. Ehmer,Kilgour and Baldwin have been gifting the opposition goals all season and as for the strikers(and I use that term very lightly) they have struggled all season to find the net. I would go as far to say that I will not be disappointed if most of the squad today are gone by next season. And that’s my issue Steve. They haven’t played well enough but that doesn’t make them bad players. Westbrooke played 30 odd games in a championship winning team. Hanlan and Ehmer, like them or hate them, were league one players in a mid table team. Kilgour was a regular for us as a mid table team Keepers are fine Leahy fine even though I’m not having the hype Baldwin was deemed good enough for Sunderland and posh. Nico and Macca - more than fine Grant - I think he’s ok Ayunga has shown raw ability albeit maybe L2. Oz - I don’t quite get how he hasn’t done better. All I’m saying is that this group is far better than what we’ve seen since JB took over, JB took us from comfort to rock bottom and he has to be held accountable. And more-so, name me a top level manager who calls out players so much who is a success. Brian Clough

People can say it is diversion tactics.
How can anyone disagree with Joey, our Strikers don't score goals and the defenders are unable to get through 90 without gifting the oppo.
Surely people can't seriously suggest that actually the players are ok?
We are in need of a rebuild, bring in players that at least put the effort in and play with some pride. I haven't seen this team hurting each week after being beaten time and time agai, which annoys me more than anything, I can take losing but most of the time it's the manner we have lost with no fight that bothers me the most.

Since leaving the UK in 2017 I've followed the Gas from Western Australia and was genuinely surprised by how much I started to care less about them - yes I watched the highlights most weekends (timezones and my work times mean live streaming is not really an option) and I occasionally popped on here or one of the Facebook groups to see what was going on away from the pitch, but (ignoring the stadium which was one of my passions when I was in the UK) in general what I saw and what I read meant I thought the club was doing OK in most areas and was happy to start getting into the BBL and even AFL!
But this season, perhaps helped by being a bit detached, it was clear something at the club had changed for the worse. And I hate calling it a 'feeling' or a 'vibe' or any of that nonsense, but thinking back to August and September there was something poking away when I watched the highlights on a Sunday or dipped into the forums here, something was quietly screaming that something was wrong.
Of course hindsight is 20:20 but maybe this was inevitable. Garner didn't seem to have the authority to manage the players. Tisdale had the experience but for whatever reason still couldn't make the impact you want (and need) from a new manager - especially such an experienced one...
Which brings me to Barton. Initially I thought the club had lost their minds appointing him, but then when I think back to the vibe I was getting 9 months ago both on and off the pitch, maybe there is a decent plan in place after all - because many of the things he's been calling out in interviews are things I would have been thinking about on the terraces and talking about with the people around me....fitness, decision-making, professionalism, desire....
...I think overall maybe this is the season that proves that no matter how much of a dump the Memorial Stadium is, it's the fans who make it 'our' home ground. I think a lot of the players I've seen on screen have 'missed' (and by that I mean "needed and/or were lucky there were no") fans in the stands....and maybe bringing in Barton was a last-ditch attempt to remind the players how this club normally works: under-perform either technically or in terms of effort you get called out by the fans...I think for many years the managers have rarely had to do it and I think in particular this group of players needed it....

In any organisation your employees will likely be your biggest resource and the leader/manager/chairman or whatever title they have achieves stuff through their employees hard work and success. Of course hard stuff and decisions are made and bollockings given but that’s usually within the office/changing room but certainly within the organisation. Too much public negative stuff from the leaders and employees will start to turn off, its ineffective. Half way through JBs time here it was obvious this negativity was having no impact on performances, they didn’t improve, they got worse. Now we move on, I hope JB has learnt as much about himself as he has about the team. UTG!

I think the appointment of JB is quite unique... we hear a lot of posts saying we are going nowhere, or we haven't achieved anything in 50+ years etc, we haven't been in the same league as the teds for over 20 years... blah blah... I could go on.
In JB we have appointed someone quite unlike any before him. He has brutally delivered his assessment of the football club as we should have known that he would have given his track record (and that's not a criticism by the way Joey) He has gone in on the players, coaches, structure, recruitment, medical team and probs lots more behind the scene. I can't think that anyone else that has come here would have dared to do it. He doesn't need the money and he see's these management/coach roles as challenges (and we all know how much he like a challenge) and wants to get to the top flight to prove himself.
The appointment, has got me sat up in my seat, wondered things like "can he say that?" and I wonder what the players think of that and all manner of stuff. However, if you go about doing the same things over and over expecting a different result then surely (unless very lucky) you won't change a thing.
It certainly looks and feels like Joey is about to do things to this club that haven't been done many times before. He indicates that he will be running an elite unit, with elite attitudes and those not on board can walk the plank.
I have no idea whether it will be successful or not and of course the pressure is all on him and who he takes on the next chapter with him, but I certainly am going to strap myself in for the ride.
Joey I am behind you with optimism, a bit of nervousness and a lot of intrigue
Netflix series based on the Rovers anyone?

Speaking of diversion tactics to cover up a bad season, take a look at this beauty. Iren 😂😂😂 This has cheered me up no end.... Seriously. It just confirms no matter what is thrown at me / us in life I would rather that than be a City Fan. Might as well be relabelled 'Here come the Gypsys"... but many Travellers are better educated than that lot!! WE will always be a thorn in their side - that scratch they can't itch - the pebble in their shoe - Saddest bunch in the EFL by a long way!!
