Fair play to Macca, he is a good servant to this club.
(even if he occasionally defends like a drunken octopus)

We should always have a keeper on the bench, given the 5 subs. That's twice we've needed one this season so far (remembering Eastleigh). However, if Puddy is injured and Preston not ready, we didn't have a spare available, did we?

crazy to think that subs were not allowed until 1965;
"Substitutions during matches in the English Football League were first permitted in the 1965-66 season. During the first two seasons after the law was introduced, each side was permitted only one substitution during a game. Moreover the substitute could only replace an injured player. From the 1967-68 season, this rule was relaxed to allow substitutions for tactical reasons".
remember my dad telling me that the worst player on the team was always the one being taken off 'injured'....
