So I'm browsing whoscored and decide to see if the stats backed my opinions and boy did I find something
In either of the last two seasons only one player lost the ball over 300 times in a year, its Brandon Hanlon & he managed it twice, we literally signed the worst footballer in the league as our leading striker!
This year he had 202 bad touches, the next worse was 136 & that was Jonah! Madness

I can very well believe it,
But do you have a source for this?

Unnecessarily harsh thread title and a strange reason for a first post. So based on your theory, some of the other offensive players at the top of the 'bad touches' league are crap too? Doesn't matter what touches you have as long as you can still stick the ball in the back of the net.

Madness In fairness, despite Hanlon being disappointing during the 2nd half of ther season, the sat is not as bad as presented. Looking at the stats for L1 as attached, there are many of the best attacking players right up there, which think is more reflective of players trying to make things happen rather than taking the safe option. Often to make things happen you need to take risk, its easy to play short sideways and backwards passes every time and have 'good' stats but it doesn't mean you performing well. The next 3 in the list after brandon are arguably the best 3 players in L1! Would add that the 'worst footballer in the league' based on stats would have a far worse rating than hanlon. Be good to see our players being backed a bit more rather than bashing with pointless stats to support your view! Attachments:

Has to be up there with Andy Spring as one of the worse Rovers players ever.

Woo hoo!
Let's crucify a young kid who at least tried his best and was failed by all 3 managers.
Dam hell, Nichols played for arguably our best manager in 20 years and scored less but dickheads want to continually sh** on Hanlan.
Have a long hard look at yourselves.

Have a long hard look at yourselves. Unnecessary in my opinion mate. It's a forum - people are entitled to their views; hell unlike usual this one actual has official statistics to back it up. If we've got a problem with calling Hanlan out for being crap (which IMO he is) then surely no players should be called out for being crap? But if we rule out calling things crap, why do we have a forum at all? Nigh on everything about this club is crap - recruitment, stadium, players - it's all crap. You can try your best and still be crap - hell, I should know. There comes a point when if 3 managers can't get a tune out of you then you perhaps have to accept it's maybe just you...

Oh for christ sake it's Hanlan not bloody Hanlon!!! haha yeah fair point To address first post comment - im a long time lerker & did have an account prior but forgot log in deets, so i apologise & i knew it would be mentioned which is fair as for the numbers, three things that add to my argument A) whilst i used the count statistic for "unsuccessful touches" in my original post, realistically with "event" type statistics per 90 is a far better comparison tool, excluding players who played under 20 games (there is one lad James Morton who played 1 minute all season and stats show a hilarious 90 errors per match haha) the top 10 becomes Minutes P90 1Brandon Hanlan 3445 5.3 2Jonah Ayunga 1477 4.9 3Niall Ennis 1583 4.4 4Tom Eaves 759 4 5Kwadwo Baah 1356 4 6Ellis Simms 1447 3.9 7James Norwood 1569 3.8 8Daniel Agyei 1305 3.8 9Chuks Aneke 1527 3.8 10Kyle Vassell 2042 3.6 The star players of league one who play for teams with a much higher possession rate generally disappear (Wilks,JCH,Dembele,Piggott, etc) B) I too appreciate that attackers will lose the ball more often & output of the occasions they don`t lose the ball that matters So assessing the same 10 players on goal contributions (Goals + assists) per 90 we get this list; Chuks Aneke 1 Tom Eaves 0.7 Ellis Simms 0.7 James Norwood 0.5 Daniel Agyei 0.5 Niall Ennis 0.4 Brandon Hanlan 0.3 Kyle Vassell 0.3 Jonah Ayunga 0.2 Kwadwo Baah 0.2 Baah is an 18 year old in a struggling Rochdale side so he is realistically immune from the same level of scrutiny meaning once again our duo dominate the bottom 3 C) Players can have bad seasons, look at lukaku a player mocked for his first touch, he is a different beast altogether now, but Hanlan has lost the ball the most (& comfortably) for two consecutive seasons, at different clubs which rules out playing style & team-mates as potential reasons for poor stats & leaves Hanlan with very little to hide behind. it might sound harsh to say worst footballer but surely the part of the game where your kicking a ball counts heavily in the discussion.

Stats are bollocks and can prove anything. His first touch needs working on, but he isnt as bad as so many here want to make out. He was flogged to death up front on his own all season. If people really believe that Hanlan is the reason we were relegated then they have no idea how football works. I feel the criticism he has had is water poor from "fans" given the context of the season and the squad as a whole. Also, 3 managers? We all agree Garner was sh**. Tisdale was well past his best and I never rated him anyway. And you think Barton is sh**. So please explain where you believe the poor kid has been well managed.

Given the squad were rumoured to all be unfit is it any surprise that he scored earlier on in the season before being flogged to death and dropping off in form and confidence in a sinking team under poor leadership on and off the pitch?
