Another youngster signed for Villa and this time he’s only 13. Good luck to him.
It’s getting harder all the time to keep hold of player’s, of any age. It’s disgusting that his dad said they had lots of clubs and agents contacting him and that some didn’t act that good. He said Villa acted ok.
Is there not a ruling that you can’t approach player’s under a certain age?? There should be.

Previously, British clubs could sign EU nationals between the ages of 16 and 18 with parental permission, those rules now only apply to players from the UK. If British clubs want to sign players from the EU, they now have to wait until they are 18 and are restricted to signing just six EU players each year between the ages of 18 and 21. In addition, these players will now have to fulfill criteria that determines their eligibility to play in the UK. This includes whether they've played international football and the ranking of the league they've been playing in. And it's not just players who are affected. Coaches will also be subject to a points-based system which would have blocked Huddersfield's move for David Wagner in 2015 and Daniel Farke's appointment at Norwich in 2017, with both having arrived in England directly from Borussia Dortmund's reserve team.

But as you said, something about tapping up 13 year old boys, moving them to another part of the country and in some cases without their parents doesn’t sit too well with me. I think there should be a rule around a minimum age limit, something like 16 at the youngest tapping up like this for young lads can happen.

Looks like another parent chasing the £££ hoping that there kid will make it to the prem.
could end up being a waste of time when they release him at 18 like so many others have. Its absolutely crazy to think clubs can go around poaching kids as young as 13! let alone paying a fee.
as mentioned above a age limit should be put in place to prevent this, unless the families willing to re-locate then thats a serious amount of travelling and pressure on such a young boy.

I don’t mind being a selling club, we’ve been one ever since Bert Tann’s No Buy No Sell policy ended....but I’m sure I read somewhere that selling kids is immoral if not illegal!!!

We will keep losing them until we have a top level academy, and even then better teams would turn a lot of their heads. Makes you wonder if its worth bothering to develop them or start catching the better ones that the big clubs spit out?

Until we have a top level academy this is what will happen. Youngsters will move on. Hopefully in the near future we can offer better facilities and the chance to progress through the ranks or have a back up career. If we have a gem we can keep hold of until their teens/early twenties then any fee received will be fairer. I still laugh at an interview many years ago when one of the Chelsea youth coaches stated that most of their youngsters were through the chelsea academy from the beginning. They did not poach. He used Scott Sinclair as an example. Was completely unaware he came from us

Academies are pointless, cost far too much to run, far better off spending the money on decent scouts

It seems to me , what ever model we chose as a lower league club we’ll be shafted . We’ve had debates about reserve teams ,academies, under 23’s etc etc .

Nobody seemed to mind when we signed Jones from WSM for 50p. Record transfer fee for Weston actually. Proportionately it will be the same as Prem teams taking our youngsters though. It’s the way it is. We can’t complain about them taking our young players when we do the same thing. I do however feel there should be a stricter cap on the number of players they have on their books but that’s another story!
