In the late 60s I went to study in London and watched speedway at Wembley every week - Friday nights I think. The turnout was dreadful and a couple of thousand (I think it was at most) rattled around but at least the bikes (no silencers those days!) gave it some atmosphere - mainly smelling of Castrol R. Seeing it week in week out I realised pretty quickly what a dump it was but it was still somehow a very special dump. I watched a few England matches there and quite a few cup finals (my uncle was a Gloucester FA official and later a Life President bless his soul so tickets weren’t a problem). Sadly never the Gas in a cup final and only one playoff game. The view in the seats I got was good and the atmosphere very special but I once went as someone else’s guest and the view was truly awful. Behind the scenes was dreadful. The new Wembley is far superior in practical terms but lacks impact for some reason. Sadly my uncle has passed on a while back and I don’t have access to tickets any more either so I’ve only been the twice for the Gas. By the way - if you follow speedway or fancy trying it for a change the World Championship round at the Millennium (now Principality) Stadium is brilliant as they close the roof - a unique experience. Still not a patch on The Mem on a dark Tuesday night with Irene belting out! UTG!

Ive been lucky enough to go to visit many stadiums all over the world as I usually spend half the year travelling taking in any game on my route. Wembley is a nice looking stadium but not a 'wow' stadium like it should be. What’s your favouritist / best stadium visited.

Went in 1995 and although the result wasn't what we wanted, it was a great atmosphere.
I visited the old Wembley just three times (the other two being England games, and, although the views were poor up in the top rows, the seats were narrow and the leg room shocking, each time the occasion and noise was unforgettable.
Maybe it was the massive old roof. It seemed to hold the sound in and amplify it, although I don't know how it sounded on the pitch.
The new Wembley (I've been twice) doesn't have the same feel, although it's very comfortable with nice facilities.
The crowd noise seems to drift away and up into the air or something. It sounds all echoey and fades fast.
I don't know what I'm going on about really, but it's definitely not the same experience.

Acoustics are so important in a stadium, *if* we are to ever build a new stadium I hope and pray this is one of the main design aspects. Opposing fans and players often compliment us on the noise created at the Mem but it’s gotta be one of the worst grounds around for holding in the noise. just imagine how noisy we could be ....

Spurs new stadium and the Bernabeu are right up there though. Best view probably Athletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano Stadium Best atmosphere Boca Juniors (I went to a derby game V River Plate so that may have helped!) Best Non-Football stadium - Dallas Cowboys AT&T

Yes was there: took the whole family up. As some mentioned earlier a definite sliding doors moment. Stewart hitting the bar, and how Taylor missed I will never know.
What might of been, but that's the life of a Rovers supporter... Makes the highs even higher...

Here is the highlights but this time with our 'Screen Soccer' commentary.
Skinner's 1 on 1. Channing's rocket just wide of the post. Stewart's header on to the bar followed by Taylor's open goal miss. Stewart's long range effort hitting the post followed by Browning's effort over the bar in front of yet another open goal. 6 brilliant chances not taken. We should have won.

The old Wembley was magical and was every ones dream to play there or watch there, those responsible for the new stadium should be ashamed of there creation, soulless and a heap of concrete among a lot more heaps of concrete!

My memories of that day are a bit hazy but ... 1. Those misses!! Can’t bring myself to watch the highlights; 2. Bruises on the backs of my legs from swaying back on forward against my seat, mainly due to the amount of cider consumed (had some double vision going on too). 3. Meeting a barmaid in the pub the night we got back and ending up going on a 3 day bender with her. It was my 20th birthday the next day after all.
