Why can't he have his say? It was made clear that any one with his views on that subject would be moderated, regardless of how the poster conducted themselves. As a mod team we have to be careful when allowing information and misinformation to be shared on social media. It's OK for Facebook and twitter to peddle anything from anyone but we felt it sensible to stick to government backed health advice. It's perfectly OK for people to believe, do and say what they wish but none of us want any responsibility for the sharing of information from either side that may potentially cause harm. It was an interesting debate but closing the thread having heard all sides was probably the most sensible course of action. It's a shame that 79 left and it's a shame that Pirate chose not to tone down/stop posting in the way he was. Hopefully both posters will return very soon and as a mod team I suspect we may have learned to have acted sooner by closing the thread some time ago. You live and learn. Hopefully. Very well put Hugo.

Wasn’t the Mark Little one from a non Gashead? (Not that it matters to him of course but good if it suggests the gas fan base has no issues). As for the malteser comment I’m not sure what the intent was - only the person who shouted it knows. Interesting that a bald linesman can be called a cue ball and there is no reaction but any similar type of comment to someone BAME can be construed as racist. Shows the need to be ultra careful with anything you say these days. Similarly Akinfenwa was called a water buffalo fairly recently due to his build and that caused a bit of a reaction, Crouch gets called a Giraffe and that’s ok. Could be, I don't have twitter but I just remember something at the time about it. On the malterser comment, I think it's pretty clear what the intent was tbh. If you're being specific enough as to whether it came from a place of banter vs hate, it doesn't matter - because you can't banter with these things anymore. The intent was there to make a comment about his skin colour - well, that was achieved. And he'll thankfully never be allowed in a Rovers game again. Never personally heard cue ball, but I don't like it. It wouldn't get the same reaction as a racist comment because quite frankly, they're incomparable. Are bald people a different race? Have they been oppressed? Are they searched by police? Are they killed/arrested by police more? Do they earn less money? Were they slaves? The list goes on. In general though, the days of picking on someone because of their looks has gone - its unacceptable. Calling a linesman a cueball, calling a tall referee a lanky prick, calling short player a dwarf or calling someone with long hair a gypsy is no longer acceptable. You don't have to be ultra careful, its pretty easy not to call someone bald a cueball, isn't it? We've generally moved on from calling/shouting at people with names by the way they look. Why do we have to call people something by the way they look in the first place? The problem is not that we have to be ultra careful in how we address people, the problems are from the people who naturally address others in this manner. Cracking post Gassy, well said.

Bringing it back to topic...
Racism does still exist in football but it isn't the obvious kind of racism that we saw in the 70's and 80's. We do have attendance from a variety of different ethnic background but I would be surprised if it is representative of the Bristol population 6% Black and 5.5% Asian (1.5% Indian, 1.6% Pakistani, 0.5% Bangladeshi, 0.9% Chinese, 1.0% other Asian)
The bit here that tends to go unsaid is about that Asian population. I would be really surprised if we had 1% of fans classified as Asian let alone 5.5%.
Then there is the Asian footballers. Why do you think we don't have a good crop of Asian footballers breaking into the Englabd team?
Racism still exists at grass roots level.
