Hughes looked commanding Luke Thomas looked excellent especially first half, am worrying where are the goals coming from? Watched on ifollow and Hoole and Budd did okay, Westbrooke some nice passing, but again our crosses into the box were generally poor. Wanted to see coutts and Finley in midfield, some of their tackles were awful especially the one on Anderton. Luke Thomas is the white haired lad yes? Didn’t know anyone apart from Mark Hughes, Anderton, and those who were here before this season. Mark Hughes reminds a lot of Tony Craig (esp. the poor distribution so far - hopefully that improves) Thomas (if I got the right player) reminds me of Billy B.

Only goal from open play we have scored so far this pre - season is an own goal for Melksham , can't get much worse can it. I’ve been saying that for years….. And it keeps getting worse…..

I know is only friendlies but they had the better chances and we looked miles off a promotion team. They don't always count for a lot but what i have seen so far i am not very confident. Promotion? You need to set your sights much lower…if we avoid relegation it will be a major success.

To be fair I thought they did ok and there are tougher tests to come, for Havant that is. Bath City, Chippenham Town, Slough Town, Braintree Town etc etc.

I swear I must be watching different games to some of you as I felt we’ve looked in complete control pretty much. Luke Thomas has looked decent, Westbrooke has played quite well with some decent passes and tackles, we’ve had a few decent chances from crosses into the box and Clarke has done well on the left. Havant have had 2 decent chances but not much else and I’d argue we’ve been the more dominant side with more half chances…. Hoole and Budd do not look out of place and I do think they’ll be regular 1st team squad players… Collins really unlucky right at the end with the defender getting the block in on his tap in after good interplay and great cross from Clarke. All in all an ok 1st half and a good workout…. You do realise we're only playing a NLS side, what's the betting most of their players have done a day's work before playing tonight, as I doubt they are a full time set up. We seem to have exactly the same problems as last season, strikers who never score. I do Topper but they are only 2 leagues below us and are normally fairly decent hovering around the top end of the table….. they’re also at least semi pro and we have been training hard and trained today before the game…. it’s like a cup game for them as it’s against higher opposition, it’s on a better pitch, a chance to impress league coaches and we are not playing a cohesive 1st team - we’re playing mixed teams to get minutes into the legs… we were also missing a number of our 1st team who I believe are likely starters…. I agree though that physically putting the ball in the net is proving challenging…..our approach play was generally good, we were generally in control, we had more and better opportunities, we just couldn’t get the ball over the line (their defence and keeper did play well though)… was their Alex Wall the same one we had on loan in the conference season?

Wasn’t that bad. At least Brandon Hanlan looks better even in preseason than he did last season. Honestly, iFollow makes it look worse than it is. We are missing that out and out goalscorer though because it isn’t BH. Was great to be back in the Mem but no preseason friendly can compare to a competitive fixture and there couldn’t have been more than about 800 there. On the flip side it’ll be weird being back in a crowd again - felt odd enough at 2m distance. Most aren’t masking up moving around the ground. looked even worse being at the ground lol

Yeap Luke has the white hair right winger, was impressive, thought Hughes wanted the ball all the time and looked a good organiser, plus at corners seemed a threat. Disappointed not to see our other new signings.

Please can we go all out and buy a striker, I don't know who, just one that knows where the back of the net is.

Yes, same Alex Wall. Shot like a cannon but aim like a blunderbuss! Thought it was! For his physique and height etc he should be so much better as a no 9 but he just seemed to have a hard shot and not much else - just like the handful of times he played for us!

A lot more concentration these days on players being fitter, so his age is not as great as it would have been say, 10 years ago. Hopefully that makes sense - I'm not suggesting he's a time traveller!

We used to be so good at unearthing decent strikers - where did it all go wrong?
