Tremendous players for Rovers.
Playing centre midfield he seemed to control every game and looked the best player on the park despite being very much a veteran then.
RIP

RIP Terry - one of the good guys. A hero from that fantastic England team of 1970. And what a terrible couple of years it’s been for the Revie Leeds team of that time.

Rest in peace Terry Cooper. A great player in his time. As a manager he had good success in the lower levels. Will be remembered as a player at Leeds united ,as a manager probably at Bristol City mostly.
Thank you Terry for your season at the Gas ,player manager is never an easy task.
Best wishes to his family and friends.
Was TC at Rovers the season the south stand burnt down ? August 17 1980.

Yes he was, he and a few others spent the close season painting the south stand blue from the previously dingy green only for the stand to be burnt down a few weeks later.

I remember when TC was given the managers job. Don't recall who the chairman was,but the Local reporter asked what was going on at the club. Conversation went something like. Rovers Chairman. Harold Jarman has been relieved of manager duties, and will be replaced by Peter Cooper.
Reporter. Do you mean Terry?
Chairman. Yes,that's right.Peter Terry.
Reporter. No, it's Terry Cooper.
Chairman. Yes,Terry Cooper that's it.

I think the chairman may have been Martin Flook The name Holmes seems to ring a bell. You may be right ,just remember having a conversation with Terry a while back and he referred to Martin Flook and BB .But i can't remember in what context.

It was indeed Graham Holmes chairman apparently the other board members wanted Jarman installed after his tremendous achievement of keeping Rovers in what is now the Championship. Terry unfortunately released the experienced Stuart Taylor and Frankie Prince and they were relegated.

I suppose he was told to cut the budget - our original "reset"!
The experienced players were let go and the youngsters brought in (including (Gary Mabbutt) resulting in finishing bottom of Div 2 by a long way.
Replaced by Bobby Gould who brought about his own reset with experienced pros like Alan Ball and Mick Channon (is history repeating itself?).
Cooper proved to be a good manager though (unfortunately on the other side of town).

FWIW - Ray Kendall in his biography says that TC was a very good manager and put in an awful lot of effort, and his wife also helped. He had a terrible run of luck though, including the South Stand fire and its ramifications. It culminated in losing 4-1 to Swindon. After the game the directors asked TC why we'd lost. Kendall reckons if TC had given some waffle about tactics etc he would have kept his job. As a blunt Yorkshireman he just said "we were crap". He was sacked a few days later.
