We do ourselves no favours sometimes.
This is a £30-40k per annum job and we’re trying to get someone to complete one of the data analyst jobs for free!

Yeah I’ve never agreed with unpaid internships. Basically it’s “we want you to do a load of the work that no-one else wants to do, then we expect you to do it completely unpaid with no means to support yourselves for six months. Don’t complain though as you get valuable experience” It’s poor from Rovers, especially if we want to attract employees from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Tone deaf (again) from Rovers and Wael has tried to justify it as “normal” ffs. Who will this person be learning from I wonder, or is it really to bring in skills the club needs that it doesn’t currently have?

Imagine putting yourself in debt for years of university gaining the right qualifications for this to be the type of role on offer to you after.

I see at as they giving someone a chance, experience, in an exciting environment (a pro football club) internships only last a year an yer normally offered a paid roll at th end. I don’t quite see it as a bad thing from th club, if this is what you really wanna do as a career I can only see it as a positive, also a small dream come true for any Gashead applying. All IMO.

Yep great Jock if you’ve got supportive parents who are prepared to fund you for a year. I’m Guessing this closes the door to 90% of people .

Some of our own fans got nothing good to say about our club, from what I am seeing lately it's just put us down as much as they can, go and support someone else if all you want to do is have a dig.

IMO supporting the club is wanting it to be the best version of itself. If it’s doing something badly, then the supporters should point it out, not just cheering it on when there is reason to cheer, though of course that’s important too.

Well there isn’t much good to say is there, what do you want high fives for a crap stadium, worst manager, just relegated and now this cheapskate nonsense…you’re the one who needs to take a good look at himself if you think it’s acceptable and doesn’t deserve negative comment.

I totally get where yer all coming from, but sometimes these roles lead yous onto greater things long term, a bit like education, it’s unpaid but later it may be th best thing yous did for your future. im just saying it’s not black n white like almost everything in life. 👍

I agree but maybe this could give someone a start, granted it won't suit alot of people but it will others, to me it seems like every opportunity there is to put our club down someone is there ready to jump on it, I've been going since 81 and it just not nice seeing all the negatively.

Imagine a bright, talented , young player who can’t seem ta find a team offers ta play for free ta show what he’s capable of, we’d all be sayin what a great lad, deserves his chance ta prove he’s got what it takes. This may just get in such a person an they never look back, an forge a whole career on something others wouldn’t take on. We may jes get one very hungry youngster.

I dont want to be negative as I feel I've done that with my last post on the squad numbers thread. But sorry to say it we are stumbling from one PR disaster to another. Wael I am sure is trying to do the right thing, but is spinning to many plates. Just employee a team of trouble shooters and PR specialists and do a root and branch review of the club from top to bottom. That's the start of a business plan right there.

My criticisms are more aimed at the practice of unpaid internships in general. I’m glad that Rovers offer opportunities like this and I wouldn’t expect interns to be on similar pay grades to their full time counterparts. Just something to compensate them for their time and travel expenses is my wish, even if that only translates to minimum wage. On the negativity front, let’s hope the team can give us a reason to be positive and optimistic on Saturday!

I thought Wael did all that stuff about 2-3 years ago. We had consultants crawling all over the club for a while. Wonder what their report said and why it didn't work? Assuming Wael acted on their recommendations of course.

The trope "Wael is a good bloke trying his best" has taken an absolute hammering this last fortnight.
