I was so looking forward to yesterday. But cant say I enjoyed it that much.
I think I had forgotten quite how horrible it can be sat with your family surrounded by grown men acting like Neanderthals, gesticulating like hard men, swearing at the police, calling the lines women a stupid cow and a whore. And then outside watching men (from both teams) being dicks both sides of a fence. My Mrs was uncomfortable, and my 11 year old wanted me to explain why men wanted to fight about football.
I've been going to matches since the 70s so seen plenty of the nonsense before but maybe the lockdown time off had made me forget a bit.
And as for the football, Jakkola got it wrong big time for their goal. The ref was not as bad as many are making out. And it was a Penalty. Stupid, stupid thing to do. Thought Luca Hoole was great. Liked the look of Hughes, and lovely goal by Cian.
It was weird seeing Grant and Westbrooke etc live as they look different ifollow.....not sure if that makes sense.
Anyway, there you go.

I’ve always put a funny spin on the ‘hooligans’. Always found it’s better to laugh at them than get angry and annoyed by them.
One that particular caught me and my mates eyes was a man at the bottom wearing stone island light blue jeans, no shirt on and spend more time watching the home fans than the actual game.

If I had a pound for every time I've had rude things said to me from the other side of a fence....
Most of the time they're being abusive about my footwear, which I happen to find quite comfy and reasonably priced....

They are nonces. Imagine being 50+ wearing chavvy stone island shirts and then tanking up on cider and goading people the other side of a sterile area. Sad. But every club has them.

UTG All club have this idiot element and perhaps we have a few more than most. It's when the behaviour of the few wreck the day for the many or make people are fearful for their safety that really upsets me. As I've said before I think we might see trouble from our idiot element this year. Hope I'm wrong.

UTG Join the club pal. First game was ‘63 and it’s been downhill since, albeit slowly, with the occasional flash of lightening feeding my enthusiasm. I often ask myself why I bother yet the answer is getting increasingly untenable. It’s watching live a better standard than I could ever attain. Looking at us these last couple of seasons (post Coughlan) has tipped me over the edge. The latest manager’s honeymoon period has long gone and I’m now beginning to think that perhaps he is actually useless. Talks a great game though, as did the two previous incumbents. We shall see.

UTG I thought those days were long gone. Very sad!
I get as passionate as anybody else with football, the quality of my weekend is largely determined by the result on Saturday. What I don't understand is the anger towards supporters of other clubs.
When we lose, I don't think badly towards the opposition team or supporters.
Football should be an exciting experience for all. How on earth are we going to attract kids and families to football. Ridiculous.

I am with the OP on this one. I didn't go yesterday and in the main it was for exactly the reasons described by ilysagas. I used to target going to about 7 or 8 away games per season and often tried to extending the trips into weekend breaks. However, I have ben gradually finding these away trips less and less enjoyable over the past few years and, as is the case with the OP, I actually find that the experience of watching the game itself can be quite uncomfortable and that discomfort is created entirely by our own "fans".
It has gotten to the extent that I would be too embarrassed to invite a friend to the game and I DEFINITELY wouldn't take a kid.
We pride ourselves for being a family club - but the behaviour of some of our fans at away games is severely damaging this reputation.
I am not sure why this would be as I still enjoy the atmosphere at the Mem, which is entirely different (despite the standard of football).

As an away fan you have little if any options on where you can sit or stand. At the mem there is potential to choose from 10 different areas in the ground for home fans.

I accept that there is a problem with "seat Allocation" when buying tickets for an away game, even moreso now that the ticketing is handled by TicketMaster (presumably outside of the control of the Club). For too long there has been no system that is able to segregate our own away fans to accommodate their respective needs to enable them to enjoy the experience of watching the football. Isn't is a travesty that we have to even consider the need to segregate our own fans at an away game - but unless that happens, I am convinced that fewer and fewer supporters will want to go as a "family day out". We need the next generation of Gasheads to ensure that the club can progress and we shouldn't allow a small minority of "fans" to put that in jeopardy.

You could compare to different types of pubs and the groups of people that frequent them. How their dynamics change if for example a large group of rowdy 20 somethings arrive in a quiet family type pub .
