With the news that Westbrooke can go and Hanlan is likely to leave I ask the question how many of last seasons players will be with us after January or when their contract is up? By my reckoning all we will have left from last season if they go will be Grant, Harries, Baldwin, Barrett, Kilgour, Hargreaves, Liddle, Tomlinson, Mehew, Rodman, Nicholson, Jaakkola, Walker and Martinez. I have the feeling that the only players out of those that JB would have kept if they had been out of contract would have been Grant, Rodman, Martinez, Jaakkola and Nicholson. If Jaakkola doesn't improve in the next few games I can see Belshaw threatening his place too especially if he is going to continue being third choice for Finland. When all players are fit I can't honestly see Harries, Baldwin, Barrett, Hargreaves, Liddle, Tomlinson, Mehew or Walker being in the squad. I have to say that the fact we have 16 left at the moment shows how ridiculously big the squad had become and just how lacking in quality it was.

Much as I agree we should offload Hanlan it will be crazy to do so before we sign a recognised striker. Our performances to date emphasise the lack of quality up front.

Wasn't Rodman the only player out of contract who was offered a new one in the summer? The only players signed by BG I think that may last a while longer is Nicholson, Grant and possibly Harries (based on the fact that the latter two started both league games) We all thought Hargreaves would be told he is free to go after not being near the match day squads then suddenly he's in the starting eleven so you just never know!

I think the problem is that when a team from a higher league come in for a player (especially a younger one) then your hands are pretty much tied....

Especially after getting relegated and starting the season so badly. If any of us were in Hanlan's shoes we would all be itching to get a move back to league one.

And, in Hanlan's case, he only has 1 year left on his contract meaning he could agree a free move in January or at the end of the season. Think the club will be looking to take some money for him.

That's not a problem when a player is under contract. Clearly heads could be turned by a Championship move and tripling or more a contract, but that won't be the case with any of our players.

Current BRFC Players listed on the programme Saturday:
Belshaw, Hughes, Grant, Kilgour, Finley, Thomas, Westbrooke, Hanlan, Collins, Nicholson, Hargreaves, Coutts, Anderton, Taylor, Martinez, Anderson, Clarke, Saunders, Mehew, Spence, Harries, Baldwin, Liddle, Walker, Philips, Hoole, Tomlinson, Jaakkola, Rodman, Hulbert, Ward, Heal, Murray, Budd, Barrett, Pitman, Jones.
A total of 37 professional footballers - a crazy number - Stevenage totalled 22. And Joey has shipped out 18 (?) and brought in 13 (?). We sold a 15 year lad to Aston Villa for c£250k who's possibly worth more than most of this lot put together - and he cost us nothing in wages - bizarre IMO.
How has this level of recruitment been allowed to happen?
