I am just frustrated to hear JB talking about not having a number 9 for now the 4th game of the season and yet we are playing a style that certainly requires a number 9 to play that way and the occupant Saunders not the slightest bit able to play that role. Why can't he just change the style a bit to suit the players we do have. Instead of flogging a dead horse surely he could have pushed players forward to support Saunders and pressurise the oppositions defence. It seems ridiculous to just continue lumping the ball up to a player who hasnt hardly managed to win one battle in the 3 games. If we are going to persist in hoofing the ball up then surely we would be better to stick Taylor up there as he couldnt do any worse? Even Rodman would be a better bet. Its the same with the totally negative tactics at corners where we have nearly all the players back and for what? We have been playing this tactic all season and yet even with everybody back we have conceded 3 goals from corners in two League games. We should be keeping players up the field so opponents cannot push everyone forward which is obviously causing us problems. If we are just going to keep flogging a dead horse until Pitman is back then we will be throwing a few more 3 points away.

Barton has too much in the way of non footballing issues occupying his mind to see viable alternatives which could help us gain some points. I worry when in his interview he proclaimed we would be promoted. In his mind I have no doubt that he believes it but the reality is seemingly not very likely. Playing Saunders in that role is madness only equaled by the release of Ayunga prematurely. Barton cannot afford to be stick to the current plan without varying his approach. I agree that Rodman needs to be tried up front.

Would love to know what they have been working on in training, because the long ball style of football is horrific, we barely create any chances or have a shot on target and still can't defend set pieces.

Agreed, if something aint working then you need to change it!, It is patently obvious that playing one up front, whether it is the lad Saunders, Was Hanlan before him etc, and playing the same way/players behind them , is not producing any results or football to give fans anything to enthuse about, i do not pretend to have the answer but we need to at least try something or some one knew! what's to lose?

Seems we will play 3 4 1 2 tonight, we need to create chances, looks like Pitman and clarke will be available for Exeter, with coutts available after his ban.
Need to offload a few, to hopefully bring in a couple of decent signings.

His comment in that interview just about sums it and him up "We’re about consolidating and we’re second-bottom. We are technically the second-worst team in the professional ranks and I’m the second-worst head coach in the professional ranks. That’s got to sting, you’ve got to get better."

I've been Pro Barton from when Tisdale left, but enough is enough and a loss tonight and I'm saying get rid as there are no signs of change or improvement and this is going end up in us being back in non league again and we won't come back this time.
I let him off at the back end of last season and our relegation as I didn't feel it was his fault, but he never helped us during that period nither. But the way he spoke about the squad last season, and the fact that he talks a great game but thus far has done nothing, along with his personal problems I say get rid or we could be f**ked.
We are much more likely to go down the up with Barton in charge ATM.
I hope I'm wrong.

To be fair to JB that seems a reasonable assesment by him, I'd sooner here that from him than "we'll get promoted". Back to Steve's comments if Man C can play w/o a CF I'm sure we could manage it, somebody needs to tell Thomas he needs to be playing at the right end of the pitch.

Might be worth trying an old style 4-4-2 with Saunders and Collins up front with Thomas and Anderson (or Nicholson) on the wings.
Instead of trying to hit the front men early create some movement out wide.

Not sure we have the calibre of their midfield, nor the defenders come to that. But I love the optimism. 😀 We need a number 9, or at least Pitman back asap. UTG!

JB would never be able to show his face around the table of modern managers Oh Joey you are so 1980’s old boy, I can hear them sniggering, no one plays that way anymore (For what it’s worth I like the idea, if only to give us 2 up top)
