What struck me most about yesterday was the fact we had no idea how to break down their defence. Its a fallacy that its easier to score against 10 men. Having a player sent off just means they substiture a striker for another defender and shore up the defence especially if their not losing. When Nicholson went off we lost any penatration, he at least tried to take on their defenders which he did with his goal. No other player tried doing that, they just played the ball sideways x10 everytime. I dont blame the players so much as the Manager. Barton seems to think we can play like England who pass the ball across the front of the defence until they see an opening or players making runs into the box. His ability to change things to improve our tactics is dire. Exactly my thoughts. When playing against 10 men you have to stretch them wide. In Nicholson, Thomas, Anderson and Rodman we have players who can do that. The dfenders tire and then make mistakes. We didn’t play that way. Nicholson is yet to regain full fitness and was taken off as a precaution. In Thomas you would think we had a liki for like replacement. I dontknow why we didn’t attack them down the wings. my fear is that other teams will note this, come to the Mem to defend in depth as we can’t score and leave with either a point or even three with a goal on the break.

No one in centre mid or back four who can take the ball and break a defensive line. Thing Lines did sometimes. So we ended with Coutts and Finlay too deep looking to pass into congested areas. Grant got forward a little in second half from the back but then we had two right footed players unable to deliver quality with their left feet.

I agree, plus we conceded another soft goal,Barton was clear post match that they discussed long throw threat and the need to compete but we still buggered it up,at that stage of the game just launch it down the pitch or row Z,Barcelona we ain't.

I’ve been really disappointed in coutts from what I’ve seen. Remember being jealous of fleetwood signing him and was really happy when we got him early doors. Hope to be proved wrong but he doesn’t look captain material. He has not been good so far and seems way off the pace . Seems Coutts and Grant have been doing the same job . Do we need 2 on the pitch doing the holding role ? Im hoping over the coming weeks he gets upto speed and we see the player he can be.

Coutts did not have pre season and it is very difficult to catch that up.Seanclevedongas if you are going to heavily criticise at least make sure you have the facts right. As regards playing against ten players it is never easy as we Rovers fans should know as many times we have failed to beat ten players!! The referee did not help by allowing them to waste time at every opportunity. Whilst we could have lost the game we should have been 3-1 up at half time and personally I felt we were not that bad first half. Even in injury time at the end we had two good chances to score. The problem you have playing against ten players is that the opponents will usually sacrifice a striker and put everybody behind the ball.Like Barton did yesterday you bring on players to attack and can easily get caught on the break. IMO the sending off did us no favours.

I remember travelling to Burnley away as a Lonely 17 year old in the 98/99 season where we lost 1-0 to Burnley having played against 10 men for a large chunk of the match. We’ve always struggled against 10 men no matter the squad or manager.

As i recall we have never been so successful when we have gone down to ten players!!! We are going to face a lot of sides this season who will try to set out with the intention of getting our players sent off.It backfired for Barrow
