Some posters seemed to disappear when we went 1 up. Perhaps Delia Smith could enquire as to their whereabouts? You wonder whether they support us Eric, they don t like joey, but you still support the team no one person is bigger than the club. So , if we are wanting us to lose then why continue to turn up and pay to watch ? I think even the most of blue tinted supporters could see if was a lucky win and we showed no real direction or threat. Dress it up as you wish but that was p155 poor and we have a lot of work to be done. My only and concerning question is, is this Barton’s plan or are the players panicking and kicking the ball out of play and into space, where none of our players were ? It was an awful display with Belshaw and Clark being the stand out players. I know every team needs some luck but we seriously need to address the lack of press and awareness of where our players should be. The win is appreciated but , anyone who saw it will know we were very lucky but I will take that luck and hope we get much better. Any other fair team would have scored a fair few. The defenders did put their bodies on tbe line and Belshaw was outstanding. It was an awful game to watch but Leon Clark looks like the striker we have long needed. The crowd tried their very best but, when you see your own team being outplayed and not shooting then it’s not entertaining, not at all I was very pleased to see a large amount of younger supporters and a good amount of young women too. We need to give them something to be excited about

Very good win today. I felt Crawley were the better team today, and had the better chances. If it wasn't for James Balshaw in goal, we would have lost this game. He was the difference today. Leon Clarke looked very useful up front, lovely headed goal to mark his debut as well as some clever hold up play and touches. Connor Taylor was excellent at the back, making many critical interceptions and having a solid game throughout. Anthony Evans looked lively, some nice pieces of skill and good attacking wing play. I felt we were very poor in the first half, and looked better in phases during the second half. A very welcome three points today, just what we needed on the back of Tuesday's win. I fell that better opposition would have beaten us easily today, but a step in the right direction. One game at a time... I was about to write an almost identical report. A lot of work to do moving forward. Yes, richmace articulates his posts well and is a very balanced poster. When I’m unable to go then I tend to read his posts and know he will be very honest in them

its abloody win for god sake you lot should have been watching rovers in 1968 then you would have a lot to moan about i think these media pages bring everyone down this is the last time for me on this site you all should be grateful for what is happening at the mem i and my wife are season ticket holders and are appalled at the sh.t that is shoved out week after week on this site you are supposed to support the team whatever back in the 60s we wernt able to air our veiws apart from not going to games today its easy to villifile the manager or some players that arnt perfoming because we are not winning games if we were in a league below the conferance i would still renew my season ticket because i love bristol rovers so i say adios and good luck to all those that are trying to bring this once great family team to its knees you dont deserve this wonderful club! If some of us are as you say then why do we keep turning up then. We use this place to vent but, personally speaking, I have never done anything other than to show my support. If you want everyone to say how great we were then I’d suggest you do not read others opinions. It really is that simple. Just do not read if it offends you For the record my first game was at 4 years old, In 1967. I just say what I see and I’m not here for likes or to be popular but please don’t question my support of Rovers as it’s not true

If it were up to me I would start with virtually the same line up as started Tuesday, those lads gave us some much needed joy as supporters regardless of the opposition and need to be encouraged to do it again, PS I know that this is unlikely to happen but I feel on this occasion it would be worth a punt? After watching that I can only agree. I watched from the top tier of the East seats and the only time you could see any set up was from kick offs. We kicked the ball out of play and many times, with no pressure to do so. We passed the ball into open spaces where none of our players were. We left Clark upfront and we’re embedded, in schoolboy groups, in our own half and we even had a ref who gave us many free kicks. We looked like rank amateurs and would not push up. I don’t know if that is Barton’s decision or if the players are not comfortable in pushing up. The one positive, for me in any case, is that Leon Clark looks the part and his touches and passes were mostly very good and he took his goal with aplomb. That was the spawniest win I’ve seen us get and I include the 0-1 victory as Trashton. Our GK saved us and we have a very good player there. It was very difficult to watch as we made very little to no effort the press up and players looked panicked when receiving the ball, anywhere close to our 18 yard box. The crowd didn’t have a winning buzz to it, upon leaving either. That was, in no way, an entertaining game and any other L2 scouts will have a field day in reporting on our weaknesses but I will say that our defence did a good job in repelling attacks and Belshaw was class but keeping to a back 3 and not pressing, at a home game, was hard to watch. Belshaw saved us and it looks like we have, at last, found the right striker for this division. I will happily take the points but teams with footballing nous would have capitalised on our immobile midfield and lack of press. Is this Barton who had given instructions, to not press or do we not have the players to do so ? Either way, on the games so far, I think we will be fighting in the bottom end. A win v a very young and inexperienced Cheltenham plus a truly jammy win today does not bode well. Am I being daft or just telling it as it is ? You tell me You’re being a bit daft 😂 Yeah it wasn’t a great game and on balance they had the better chances but there’s no way you should compare it with the Ashton Gate Gary Smart goal game . That really was daylight robbery! Creepy shaded the possession stats and had double the amount of shots so should of won but they weren’t that much better than us . First half we were really poor , second half we were the better side for 30 mins , then we got a bit jittery and ended up desperately holding on . I thought there were a few glimmers of hope in our play but still need plenty of work doing. We need to develop patterns of play to move the ball forward from back to front . . Too many times one of our back three had the ball at his feet , couldn’t see any options and ended up lumping the ball forward to their full backs . We looked like a load of strangers playing together, we is pretty much what we are.

We looked like a load of strangers playing together, we is pretty much what we are. Precisely that. I’d add to that unfit to boot as well. We had a number of injuries and illnesses in preseason and some players didn’t come in until late having not had a club to train with. Leon Clarke made a huge difference when he came on. It wasn’t beautiful but some posters are calling it a lucky draw and / or panicking over a ‘lucky’ win when GC proved you make your own luck.

Let's not be OTT. A good 3 points, well ground out, but not against the best team in the division and very disjointed performance.
Belshaw made important stops and needed to. Despite good performances from Alfie and Taylor, midfield runners were not picked up.
Like Nichols chance, they had men over at the far post several times and we needed Alfie to cover for others several times.
Clarke will be an asset, Saunders worked his socks off (but like Haldane, is he a good runner but better without the ball?) but just a note about the substitutions.
When Nicholson was fouled, it was clear he could not continue, yet despite having a corner and Crawley having a throw in, we did not the sub for 3-4 minutes.
Also when Anderton came on it forced Alfie into a wider position (which we all know he is not very good at), we lost an extra body upfield and it meant almost constant pressure, except for a breakaway.
Not JB knocking but Nicholson is our best player and has to be protected at times and against better opposition, the tactic of bringng on an extra defender will not pay off.
A good three points and good for confidence, but they must get the tactics and formations better. (And throw ins! I am not sure if Saunders won more than 10 percent of the throws in the air of which there were quite a few).

I didn't go to the game so cannot honestly comment on the details of the game. But on this nonsense that those of us who believe the current manager is not an appropriate appointment as leader of the club, professionally and in any way, do not want the team to win, every game, is just that, nonsense. Without going backwards and regurgitating past arguments over this guy, one of the keys issues for this season has been the lead up to it and the utterances of the manager in managing expectations. It was he who made the statements about guaranteed promotion, he who stated the players would be fitter than ever ready for the new season, he who claimed he had to rebuild the squad and backroom staff to achieve this. Yet here we are. The general consensus being that the on field performances are dire. That the players do not appear fit, the tactics unfathomable. So we hope, as supporters, for a rapid improvement because another relegation is unthinkable. The trouble is, to date, there appears to be little trend towards improvement. The managers right hand man walked out within a couple of weeks of the season, we have been forced to sign two players out of retirement to bolster the squad. One, Whelan, allegedly for the positivity and his motivational abilities he brings. Really? What's the manager doing? Then of course, looming large is the private matter of the manager's court case. The owner has stated publicly that any employee convicted of the charges laid against the manager would be dismissed. So, in the round, it's not a great place to be in, is it? Finally, it's all very well enjoying the win, I did, but sticking your head in the sand and ignoring the facts that surround the club is not the way to support the club.

I enjoyed the game. 3 points, couple of pints and a lovely sunny day. Not sure what some people expect but reading dome if the posts just spoils it. Can see why posters are leaving, too much childish bickering by grumpy old fuckers with nothing else to do

Look I was not in attendance yesterday but having read all reports and watched the highlights it seems we won GC style. Maybe not exactly playing style but GC style as in backs against the wall. We have seen many posters here criticised for wanting GC gone as they couldn’t take results over performance and being told results are all that count. Well let’s be grateful for the points and a productive week. Our new striker scored (from the highlights reel I couldn’t see a walking cane or mobility scooter parked up by the terrace, despite moans on here about age) and our defence held tight after being well tested. As DC would say “Happy Days”.

Not sure why you chose to quote my post for this diatribe. I didn’t comment on the manager whatsoever - my thoughts represent the squad. I find it a bit poor that having quoted my post you’re claiming that I’m sticking my head in the sand. If you want to make it about Joey I will say this. For what it’s worth considering his comments that we will get promoted I completely agree with you, that he shouldn’t be promising promotion, say we’re aiming for it fine but don’t promise it repeatedly. It makes him look a tit. As does saying that the squad will be ready for day one and perfectly fit. He couldn’t make guarantees like that and yep, he looks a tit for saying that. And let’s just completely bypass the off the field matters because I’m no happier about it than you are and I feel he has massively let down Wael with his actions. Those comments out of the way… We’re unbeaten in three and have taken two wins out of it. Even if one of those was against a Cheltenham team fielding youngsters in the Micky mouse cup. We appear to be possibly turning a corner and starting to get decent results. We’re not getting relegated there are far too many poor teams in the league. Taking the manager out of it (for as we know he has a tendency to make himself look a tit). It is a perfectly reasonable explanation that the squad is new, needs to gel and learn to work together. Want a case in point? Look back to Darrell Clarke’s conference side. Didn’t work so well straight off did it?

First off My apologies if, by quoting you, it appeared my comments were aimed at you specifically, they were not. Given that we appear to agree on the manager, then it's down to let's put the blinkers on and seek solace where we can. Yep the squad is fundamentally new and needs time. I agree, any new team does. So let's come back to this in October and see where we are. I hope they do gel and become a team that plays to a tactic, a formation, and wins consistently. I have very low expectations, so I shall hope to be very pleasantly surprised.
