You wonder whether they support us Eric, they don t like joey, but you still support the team no one person is bigger than the club. So , if we are wanting us to lose then why continue to turn up and pay to watch ? I think even the most of blue tinted supporters could see if was a lucky win and we showed no real direction or threat. Dress it up as you wish but that was p155 poor and we have a lot of work to be done. My only and concerning question is, is this Barton’s plan or are the players panicking and kicking the ball out of play and into space, where none of our players were ? It was an awful display with Belshaw and Clark being the stand out players. I know every team needs some luck but we seriously need to address the lack of press and awareness of where our players should be. The win is appreciated but , anyone who saw it will know we were very lucky but I will take that luck and hope we get much better. Any other fair team would have scored a fair few. The defenders did put their bodies on tbe line and Belshaw was outstanding. It was an awful game to watch but Leon Clark looks like the striker we have long needed. The crowd tried their very best but, when you see your own team being outplayed and not shooting then it’s not entertaining, not at all I was very pleased to see a large amount of younger supporters and a good amount of young women too. We need to give them something to be excited about Hi KP, while it is your view on the game and you have posted on what you saw I have to say I disagree slightly. While the game was in no way classic and the football on show wasn’t the greatest, I don’t think Crawley out played us. My personal view was it was a scrappy game contested by two teams that looked short of confidence and the game was more of a battle than a spectacle. For me that performance very much reminded me of the coughlan era, battle hard, bodies on the line, a clean sheet, take our chance when it comes and a little bit of luck along the way thrown in. Tbh I would go back to taking the coughlan style football atm as winning means more to me after the absolute dross we have had to endure over the last 18 months in what was supposed to be a period of expansive, free flowing football that we all craved. On another note I agree that it was good to see quite a lot of younger and female faces around the mem yesterday

Eric is a top bloke from the Tote End days, always a voice of reason. He will have hopefully enjoyed the 1-0 win; always a great time to score either side of half time, nice to see two of the new players joining up to score a classic headed goal.

Firstly, great to get the win and the 3 points were more important than the performance. However, we rode our luck at times and Crawley will wonder how they haven't taken something from the game.
A combination of poor finishing, good goalkeeping, last ditch tackles / blocks and lady luck helped us keep a clean sheet, but if you let a team have 19 shots (8 on target) and some pretty presentable chances, more often than not, you'll concede.
Hopefully Nicholson only picked up a minor knock and Evans injury is not too serious. Both could be important players for us. I thought Evans looked promising on his debut.
Clarke made a difference when he came on and I think we'll be relying on his presence up front until we find a way to play through midfield.
As with a lot of games, positives and negatives, but most importantly, 3 points in the bag.

Ahhh...2 home wins and an away draw in 8 days. 4 goals scored and 1 conceded. And still they moan... Going round in circles it seems. Were we not at this point under GC. Good job we changed that.

Well I for one enjoyed the game yesterday …. Thought we battled well at times and bodies were put on the line over and over in that frantic last 15 minutes.
Yes our keeper was worked harder and Nichols missed a sitter - but we scored and Crawley didn’t so will take the win for sure.
Vey much work in progress but already there are some stand out signings…. Taylor looks superb, Belshaw also. I thought Antony Evans did very well certainly putting in a shift and Clarke is a touch of class up front.
Thought we looked fit - Harvey Saunders is fast becoming a family favourite …
One or two still to get up to speed but confident it will come.

Well, what can I say...
We rode our luck only created a couple of chances. Crawley fans must've gone home thinking "how the f**k did we lose that".
However, a win is a win. 3 points on the board and Leon Clark looked class when he came on.
3 games undefeated. Will be more comfortable when that is 10 games undefeated.
On to the next game.
(Still hate JB mind)

For me the biggest thing i took away from yesterday was that last season we would have lost that game by a wide margin, this group of players left nothing out there and i truly believe they played to keep their shirt.
No one could be accused of giving less than 100% and any critisism of any individual would be unfair, that in my book makes us fair and worthy winners.
Evans i thought grew into the game and got better as the game progressed and i think when fully up to speed will be a very important player for us, we now have clarke and pitman who could play a half each with players with pace around them. Finlay is the heart beat and good to watch plus we always seem to have a strong bench.
I think the future is bright but still a little way in the distance.
On a different note, the comments about JB promising promotion, if anyone has access to his book read the bit about his conversation with Peter Schnichael and the psychologists amongst us will understand.

Not quite sure how we won that but hey, its a win and 3 points in my first home game of the season, so gotta be happy. Very impressed with Belshaw - lets hope he and Anssi can maintain form as they will be needed frequently unless we get organised defensively - and I am not talking about the back 3 or 4 - more the other 7 or 8 who need to up their game when we lose possession. I watched West Ham a couple of weeks ago and what really impressed me was the way all 11 players became active defenders as soon as the opposition had the ball. Watched Rovers yesterday and several players seemed to switch off, or not react intensively, as soon as we lost possession. Lots to improve there as I feel that is the main reason that Crawley got so many chances. Let's hope they are fit enough after JB's famed pre-season foundation.

It was a much needed win as they all are. Perhaps undeserved but I’ll take it. But Crawley weren’t that good and we showed the few bits of class on show. Yes, Belshaw was good but he’s part of our team and I’d expect him to save what he did, he did his job. Lots of individual performances were good but the midfield balance wasn’t there. I like Grant and Finley but when Crawley put more in the middle they had no space and didn’t use the wide men very well. But a win is a win and it helps build some momentum imo. UTG!
ps. Come back eric.

Luck is where ability meets opportunity. We created the opportunity and Clarke had the ability.
The opposite could be said for Crawley, or our defence and keeper had the ability.
There will be games this season where we will feel robbed.

The difference was that we had Leon Clarke and Crawley had Tom Nichols.

Apart from the 20 minutes of hoofball, which I'm generously putting down to us finding our feet and the best way to play them, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone played their part, can't fault the effort, proved by a few of our chaps collapsing to the floor at the whistle, nice goal, 3 points, and a tan from sitting in the East Stand for 3 hrs.

In the first half we were poor, to many high balls pumped from the back to the forwards. But we did show signs of improvement as Nicholson, Evens and Anderson got into the game in the last 10 minutes. Second half Clarke came on and showed a bit of class. Unfortunately both Evans and Nicholson went off, to of our outlets upfront which gave Crawley the confidence to go forward and put us under increasing pressure. There is still a lack of understanding between the forwards which led to passes not reaching the intended player, something that will improve with time. Clarke got the winning goal but it was Belshaws saves that got us the three points and good defending.

Does my memory serve me right? Was it Leon Clarke who took a dislike to Paulo Di Caneo, when at Swindon for being blamed for missing a chance. Was Di Caneo a bit too physical in his criticism ?
Found it!
