If we ever needed some positive news it is now. I don't know but I am struggling to get excited about going to the Mem year by year.
That is nothing to do with the football as I can fully accept you win and lose some.
Other than the pitch and the improved bars and shop, there not much to be positive about when arriving at the Mem.

Here's a question for anyone who cares to answer.
Which of the following three would you take:
A) Promotion back to L1 with confirmation that there will be no new or redeveloped stadium any time soon;
B) Consolidate in L2 and announcement of modest but definite Mem redevelopment with a couple of new stands;
C) Relegation to Conference but announcement of definite brand new stadium?

I totally share your view. Not sure if I'm on my own but have not been to a single game this season whil'st being the owner of a season ticket. In fact the last time I saw Rovers live was the game before Sunderland at home. It also has nothing to do with appointing Barton either. Its simply the way the club is being run. The state of the football on the pitch and mainly the shambolic stadium we play in. The sooner we leave the Memorial stadium the better.

C, it’s the only way we have a long term sustainable future as a club. Besides, get the stadium right and I think we have a bright future.

Has to be C. … although a bit unfair of Wael to make us choose.

B, as long as it meant we had the means to increase non-matchday revenue. Scenario A would just be prolonging the inevitable whilst C would ultimately be the death of the club with our current set up.

If Wael continues to reach into his pockets, do we really need non-matchday revenue? Not saying he should be obliged to, but is it necessary? An improved Mem could hold what, 15k?

Yes to the first question, Wael won't want to or be able to keep funding us and eventually we'd have to live within our means. Max capacity of a redeveloped Mem could be 20,000 depending on design and finances. The Student Let plan was c19,000 iirc.

And no sign of it stopping. Thank God. But you're right, eventually we need success to bring cash in.

He'll back us for some time yet, but it's not realistic to think that he could do that at current costs for long. We will either have to increase revenue or cut costs. As it happens, I think in 5 years or so we'll be in a better position and Wael will see the interim as a bridging loan. Just my reading, no inside knowledge. Hopeful and delusional in equal measure.

I’m not sure that Darlington fans would necessarily agree but in principle it should make more sense to get the infrastructure in place first. However in reality money follows success so it might be better in our circumstances to aim for promotion which improves the chances of better sponsorship and inward investment.

I think we will struggle getting any more league promotions in our current ground without significant investment. Conversely, I think getting a new stadium would spur us on to championship level. Without it, I think we will max out at l2 level if best. New stands at the Mem is just biding our time. Darlington was a case of a club building well beyond their station. With our catchment area and competition we could fill a 20k stadium given time and some success. Even with City on our doorstep - they won’t be for everyone!

You make a good point that City isn't for everyone. That's why we need incentives now for the next generation of supporters. What ever happened to Kid for a quid night on a weekday match. Start them young plenty of revenue from the adults having a beer, kids with the sweets and dare I say Sausage Rolls. Stand more chance of making more money, even if you stick a c ouple of extra quid on the Adults tickets.
