I'd go back to an hour before my first game and not go.

Sean, was that match the 3-3 draw with Barnsley, our first home game of 69-70? I always remember that match, including a pile driver from Robin Stubbs, his first home goal at the Muller Road end. Never forgotten. Or was it another one? Great game, I think we were 3-2 up at half time but it might have been 3-3. Typical Bill Dodgin match. UTG! Sorry no, my first game was on Tues 26th August v Plymouth. I was sat on the apparatus on the greyhound track in front of the South Stand, I remember the sights, the sounds and the smells as if it was yesterday and I absolutely loved it when the floodlights were on preventing us from being engulfed in darkness. I can still see the images vividly in my head. We won the game 3-1 and I remember for ages thinking it had been 4-1 only to learn a goal had been disallowed. Can't remember what I had for tea yesterday but will never forget my first experience watching the Gas! My fault, whenever I think of August 69 I always remember the Barnsley match. It’s just stayed with me all these years. That one sounds better, we won! UTG!

Not selling Eastville is the obvious one …£15k prime piece of land sold for the price of Julian Alsop!
However, in my lifetime it would be the season after our Wembley defeat to Huddersfield. We’d just worked out how to get the best out of Gareth Taylor, ping the crosses in and watch him smash worldy bullet headers past flailing keepers. He and Stewart began that season well and Taylor already had four when palace waved the chequebook. If we’d kept that side together one more season we’d have gone back up. As it was they deduced he had a dodgy medical that reduced the asking price and hardly delivered a cross into him all season, failing to play to his strengths and making him look a bad buy. So the one moment in time would have been telling palace to do one after that medical caused them to revise the price…medically he was still doing the business for us!

Not backing Holloway to sign a proper replacement when Mauge and Pritchard were injured in the 99/00 season. That was without doubt the beginning of the end.

Or perhaps should have sacked Ollie in the summer after the lack of leadership to even secure a playoff place . Bringing in a new manager to take the squad forward not backwards. Or convinced Roberts that staying with Rovers was the best move for his career and so guaranteeing our promotion to the Championship, who knows Holloway might have then got us to the Premiership like he did with Blackpool a few years later. As Wareham suggested I don't think we've ever really recovered from our subsequent relegation to L2 the following season. Relegation that season was the biggest failure the club ever had. It destroyed the only thing we had over city, the fact we had never been jn the bottom division. Since we have sunk lower than previous generations would have ever yhought possible. Being in league two (and below) is an absolute disgrace for this club. Throwing money at squads has never worked for rovers. Next season wael needs to shrink the budget massively and make everyone work hard for success.

Surprised if no one has mentioned it, but to get away from all the gloom on the forum i just climbed into the time machine and went back to April 1956. Rovers sat 2ond in what is now the championship, 2 games to go, win them and we are in the top league and our whole history since changes!. We had already comfortably beaten the said 2 teams earlier in the season, Leeds and Liverpool would you believe, so had every reason to feel confident. Lost them both and have never got so close again. I suppose folk of my age should be grateful we have such memories to look back on, times that many of todays fans just can't imagine, wonder what a forum of the day would have been like? i would imagine it would be bemoaning the fact we did not replace Geoffrey when he broke his leg! but perhaps in a gentler admonishing way!

Kept Dennis rofe and not brought in Malcolm Allison... Dennis would of kept us up in the old 2nd division/championship and not got caught up in the old big ron vs fat mal crap.... we have never recovered 30 years or so on.
