As is my want, I'm in the local. Having a beer, enjoying. 2 Girls come in, mid twenties, and they're pushing 2 wheelchairs (not actually wheel chairs, but invalid chairs). They put the chairs at a table, order a few drinks, few dinners.
Didn't think much of it, but I passed them on my way outside for a cigarette. The 2 chaps in the wheelchairs, were heavily disabled, couldn't converse, needed to be fed by the 2 carers, needed to be straw fed for their drinks. They didn't know what time of day it was, or even what day.
I finished my smoke, sat with my pint, and caught up on the Forum. Watching them and reading the bickering about Grant, the Ground, JB, parking, Ticketmaster, poor performances, my God I think we all need to realise how lucky we all are. I'm writing this still choked to be honest.
Sorry if this isn't really Rovers related but I just thought I'd post. When you think things are bad with your Rovers, just think, it really isn't that bad.
Bags.

Used to do a lot of volunteering with people with learning difficulties and disabilities very humbling and rewarding at the same time so I know where your coming from, people should think before complaining, we all love the gas. UTG.

Thank you, used to have some great laughs, love it when those guys from the community trust who have learning difficulties come down and play a game at half time, sheer joy on their faces, we need all the joy we can get at the moment. PS, I don't mean the guys who run the community trust have LD. UTG

Thanks for sharing baggins - a good reality check for all of us. I used to work in a school for children with physical and learning disabilities, and it was a privilege to see the smiles and excitement on their faces every morning, when their carers brought them through the door.

Worked in a secure hospital near Market Drayton as a sports leader.Every year we had a five a side tournament played on a tennis court. We provided proper kit ,proper Ref and to these Guys it was their Wembley.Emotions ran high but most loved the whole day.Not allowed out and to these people it meant so much. Staff went home to their families but these chaps -and chapesses- went back to their rooms in the secure hospital . The presentation of the trophy-(they ALL got a medal) was brilliant. Thanks for sharing Baggins but do pack up the fags!!!!!!!!!!

Great post baggins. You’re absolutely right and sometimes, as I’ve found out since retiring and doing stuff, those who need support are not always that obvious. But it does make you thank your lucky stars.
UTG!

While fully recognising the right to disagree ,Just wondering what there is about the post that pirates quarters does not like ? maybe the fact that 99% of the time no one really cares about disabled people and the lives they lead. a bit like at christmas where people give beggars money and feel good about themselves, but a month later the beggars are forgotten.

Rovers losing used to put a huge downer on me for days after; sometimes until the next game where another defeat arrives while still processing the last one.
These days ive retired very early and have money to spend large parts of the year abroad and watch football all around the world (well, pre covid).
It makes you realise there is more out there and more to life that football, although I see no reason people shouldn't complain just because some have it harder than others. You can be unhappy/critical about all things Rovers, and have empathy to the less fortunate at the same time.
