Surprised (unless its in the match day thread) there seems to be no mention of the police stopping the Rovers fans from exiting down Filton Avenue, so they could get the Swindon fans out.
Have never experienced anything like that as a home fan. I wonder who's great operational idea that was.
Thankfully there was little or no trouble that I saw, but even some of the coppers were telling us to complain on their behalf as they thought it was stupid

We didn't leave the ground until close to 6pm. The Swindon team coach spent 10 minutes blocking the road trying to turn left onto Fiton Avenue - from the middle entrance - before heading up Gloucester road. Straight onto Muller road looked a lot easier. The surprising thing was the queue out of the car park after, were all cars held back that long?

I was at the front talking to the coppers. Wasnt able to get walking til about 5.20ish.
I asked who/how to make a complaint.
You can go on the avon and somerset police webiste and the chief constable is apparently Sarah Crew.
I would like to think the club will be asking questions about what happened.
One of the coppers, who said complain on THEIR behalf, i genuinely think he felt a bit uncomfortable because there was the chance that it could kick off

Our problem was slightly different; they were stopping us exiting across the car park so we (and hundreds of others) went down the footpath behind the houses instead (the one that runs parallel to the back of the car park). This brought us out into the middle of the exiting Swindon fans singing about ‘Rovers getting battered’. We were blocked off from heading towards the Welly as the police were trying to shepherd the Swindon fans towards Filton Ave and then down to the right at the traffic lights. I asked to be let through and was told they were having to keep fans apart. I had two 12 yr olds and a 10 yr old with me (two wearing Rovers shirts) and said ‘but we’re Rovers’ . The reply was ‘sorry, we’re under instructions not to let anyone through’. I said, ‘are you gong to leave us to walk through this lot then?’. The slightly embarrassed reply was ‘yes’. If I didn’t have the kids with me I would have started shouting ‘F&ck off Swindon’ just to see if they’d change their mind about letting me continue on towards Filton Avenue.

I left after the second goal as had enough.
They blocked Filton Ave just outside the ground I asked if I can get past as my car was over the other side they said no. I also why they said can't say..

I was parked at the Civil Service club so tried to exit as usual via the car park and Trubshaw Close. Couldn't do that as the police had blocked off the carpark so we left via the main car park gate onto Filton Avenue where the police then held all the Rovers fans from going along Filton Avenue in either direction. Absolutely rediculous, I had my 8 year old with me and would rather not have been put in that position. The gas were surprisingly good natured with the police considering the rediculous tactics and the fact we had just lost, had it still been watering down I think things may have been different. Why not hold back the 700 away supporters? Isn't that the usual way if necessary? Cherry on the cake of a sh** afternoon.

Thanks for the link. I couldn't believe the chaos it caused. We park a significant way away and were not able to get anywhere along Filton Avenue and it was a total over reaction even worse than being an away fan at Plymouth and that always frustrates me getting out of their ground although I guess I don't have to worry about that for a while!

Excellent o p as it deserves it's own thread.
It's fair enough blocking roads off to prevent trouble, but I don't understand why this was done while Swindon fans were kept in?
So, in essence, many home supporters were hanging around for no reason, when all they wanted was access to public highway to get home or to nearest pint...?
That's put me off Insulation...

I can't understand why the club didn't pre warn fans we wouldn't be able to walk down Filton Ave? Although just walking back up Gloucester Rd and dropping back down on to Filton Ave only added about 5 minutes to my journey home.
Not sure I'd waste my time making a complaint.

Its the principle Topper. I would like to know as a tax payer who made this operational decision and why this decision was reached. The officers themselves couldnt give a reason and as I say at least 2 of them asked to complain on their behalf because they knew the potential aggro it would have caused

I don't recall anything significant that they suddenly need to change everything. Some people say the police upper echelons like things to kick off at the football every few years to justify the money they get from clubs. That sounds a bit conspiratorial to me, but you have to wonder why they decided to change everything.

That's fine for those who were able to make a detour. Not an option for some of the elderly supporters, or those who can only walk short distances due to health issues. I certainly don't think that it's a waste of time complaining about the strategy used after the match yesterday.

What made me laugh though (and made the whole thing pointless) is, as I mentioned in my earlier post, they forgot to block off the alleyway at the top of the car park. Anyone wanting to kick of with Swindon could quite easily have done so. So not only did it p@ss everyone off, it was a complete failure from a police tactical point of view. Complete joke.

Before the game rovers fans even had their own police escort up Gloucester road. Wierdly you could leave and join the escort at any point.Never ever seen that at a home game.think the police were bored and certainly overstaffed for the day.must off been one policeman for every swindon fan
