Our defence must be one of the worst in League football and just keep making basic error after basic error. All three goals conceded were down to defenders not having a clue where their defensive partners are and of course a terrible keeping error. I have to say I dont think it is any better than last season .

Is it time for Anssi Jaakkola again? I like Belshaw but we have forgotten how quality Anssi has been in the past for us, ISTM that he organises the defence better too.

Last season's defence was poor. Poor for L1. I wonder if we kept them, would they be doing better in L2 than the current players we have? Worryingly, I think they would. Somehow, JB has made our defence worse than last seasons defence in a worse league!

Wonder if Tone would come back?

Apart from the one dodgy kick/goal would Jaakola really do any better, I can't recall he was that good last season when he returned from injury. Playing FB's at FB/WB rather than wingers might be a better move? Although Harry Anderson now seems to forgotten that he was ever a winger!

No surprise that the defence is not a strong aspect of the team.
Connor Taylor is a promising central striker.
However, it is rare for an inexperienced 19 year old LOAN player to be your best defender.
It is even rarer to expect a fast-learning youngster to take on the responsibility to marshall the play of a team. He would probably blossom alongside a hardened, experienced and assertive partner in the centre of defence. A younger Tony Craig? Is he out there?
Injuries, loss of form, bookings/suspensions, little continuity and lack of confidence have resulted in an unwanted "revolving door" defence. Successful teams are nearly always built upon a solid and effective defence.
If Mark Hughes is not fit, on his game and available in January his replacement should be the top priority in the future player search.

We look like conceding every time the opposition attack but I do have a bit of sympathy for the players. Yes injuries & suspensions have played their part but just look at the number of players that have played in defensive positions in league games alone. Whether that's as a back 3 with wing backs or a flat 4. Off the top of my head, Hoole, Kilgour, Taylor, Anderton, Clarke, Brown, Anderson, Hughes, Harries, Nicholson, Grant. We still don't seem to know what our best formation is, the recruitment looked as though it was based around a back 3 but then how do we get our 3 most creative players into the side, I can't see Evans, Nicholson & Thomas being fitted into a system with 3 at the back without one of them being played as a wing back or Evans deeper. It's a mess

Kilgour and Taylor are good central defenders. The problem is the lack of protection from midfield. Who picked up any runners yesterday?
If the defenders get pulled away from the central areas they are in trouble.
I like Whelan but we need Grant just to the donkey work in midfield.
Good teams defend from the front. Collins and Pitman don't win anything, the midfield doesn't track back, so Kilgour and Taylor are exposed time and time again.
We have attacking talent but if don't score 2 or 3 we are not going to win, unless the opponents are truly dreadful. Thankfully there are 4 or5 clubs worse than us.
Was surprised that Martinez was dropped from the squad and Hargreaves can at least press the opposition.
With JB trying to incorporate 3 wingers, a wide midfielder and a wing back in a 4-4-2 type formation it is madness.

Thought it would of been pretty obvious for our manager to say to his side ….. “if we lose the toss and have to kick into the wind , we’ll set up with 4 at the back “

I like Anderson but he could be a good impact sub for either Thomas or Nicholson. Ie like the Windies, see off Garner and Holding and replace one with Marshall! Pittman

Have a feeling you could pin the blame on Nicholson for the first goal for allowing the runner to burst into the box unmarked. (Apologes if it wasnt Sammy Nich). Second goal a poor kick from Belshaw ,but there was a fair few opportunities to stop the goal. Such as who was marking Telford ? Belshaw should have been in his goal and a defender closing down Telford. 3rd was just silly, Taylor shouldnt have been in that position and that led to him completely misjudging the movement of the ball. Whelan had too big a distance to make up to catch the unmarked goal scorer.
I think Taylor is starting to feel the pressure now and is trying to do too much . He needs to be allowed to concentrate on his own game not try covering the errors of others.
Nicholson isnt in form and is a weak link currently. Perhaps give him a start instead of Collins upfront.
Grant may offer a bit more pace getting back as a defensive midfielder alongside Whelan.
Giving Evans freedom to go wide allows him to get in more crosses which he is good at and may benefit Pitman more.
So its not just defenders that cause other teams to score against us. Looking at how we cope with counter attacks and discipline across the whole team on marking opposition players needs more work.
